Main Ingredients
  • 14 frozen dumplings (using Gochujang-flavored dumplings as a base, adjust quantity as preferred)

Special Glaze Sauce
  • 3 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 3 Tbsp Ketchup
  • 2.5 Tbsp Oligodang (corn syrup or rice syrup) (adjust sweetness to your taste)
  • 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 20ml water (approx. 2 Tbsp)
  • 0.3 Tbsp sesame oil (add at the end)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare your frozen dumplings. Arrange 14 frozen dumplings in a single layer in your air fryer basket. Set the air fryer to 180°C (350°F) and cook for 6 minutes. This initial cook helps them start to crisp up. Feel free to adjust the number of dumplings based on how many you’d like to make.

Step 2

After 6 minutes, carefully flip the dumplings over. This ensures they cook evenly and become delightfully crispy on all sides. Return them to the air fryer and cook for another 7 minutes at 180°C (350°F). They should be golden brown and heated through.

Step 3

While the dumplings are cooking, let’s make the delicious glaze. In a small saucepan, combine 3 tablespoons of gochujang, 3 tablespoons of ketchup, 2.5 tablespoons of oligodang, 0.5 tablespoon of minced garlic, and 20ml of water. Whisk everything together thoroughly until smooth and well combined, ensuring there are no lumps.

Step 4

Place the saucepan with the sauce over medium heat and bring it to a gentle simmer. Once it starts bubbling, reduce the heat slightly and cook for about 30 seconds more. Be careful not to overcook, as the sauce can burn. This brief simmering thickens the sauce and intensifies its flavor.

Step 5

Remove the saucepan from the heat. Now, stir in 0.3 tablespoons of sesame oil. Adding sesame oil at the end preserves its fragrant aroma. Stir gently to incorporate the sesame oil, giving the glaze a lovely sheen.

Step 6

Once the dumplings are perfectly cooked and crispy, transfer them to a serving dish. Drizzle the warm, prepared glaze generously over the dumplings. Use a spoon to gently coat each dumpling with the sauce, ensuring an even distribution for maximum flavor.

Step 7

And there you have it – delicious spicy and sweet glazed dumplings! For an extra touch, I also air-fried some rice cakes (tteok) at home and served them alongside the dumplings like tteokbokki. The chewy rice cakes paired wonderfully with the glaze, making the meal even more satisfying and enjoyable. Feel free to add other ingredients like extra rice cakes or vegetables to customize your dish!
