Main Ingredients
- 200g Fresh Soybean Sprouts
- 100g Ground Beef
- Stir-fried Kimchi (store-bought or homemade)
- Seaweed Flakes (for garnish)
Beef Seasoning
- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 0.5 Tbsp Oligosaccharide or Corn Syrup
- 0.5 Tbsp Plum Extract
- 0.5 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 tsp Minced Garlic
- Pinch of Black Pepper
- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 0.5 Tbsp Oligosaccharide or Corn Syrup
- 0.5 Tbsp Plum Extract
- 0.5 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 tsp Minced Garlic
- Pinch of Black Pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Wash the fresh soybean sprouts thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or debris. It’s best to pick out any sprouts with detached heads for a cleaner result.
Step 2
Place the cleaned soybean sprouts in a pot, add enough water to cover them, and bring to a boil with the lid on. Once they are cooked, immediately drain them and rinse quickly under cold water. This step helps to retain their crisp texture.
Step 3
After rinsing in cold water, drain the soybean sprouts thoroughly in a colander. Ensure all excess water is removed, as residual moisture can make the rice soggy. Gently pressing them with your hands can help expel more water.
Step 4
In a bowl, combine the ground beef (100g) with the beef seasoning ingredients: 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp sesame oil, 0.5 Tbsp corn syrup, 0.5 Tbsp plum extract, 0.5 Tbsp sugar, 1 tsp minced garlic, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix well and let it marinate for about 5 minutes.
Step 5
Heat a pan over medium-high heat. Add the marinated ground beef and stir-fry quickly until it’s cooked through. Use chopsticks to break up the meat as it cooks to ensure it becomes crumbly. Once cooked, set it aside in a separate bowl.
Step 6
Finely chop the vegetables for the rice seasoning sauce (green onions, onions, and chives). Chives can add a nice texture and flavor, so feel free to add them or omit them based on your preference.
Step 7
Prepare the rice seasoning sauce by mixing all the sauce ingredients: 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp sesame oil, 1 Tbsp corn syrup, 1 tsp minced garlic, 0.5 Tbsp chopped green onion, 0.5 Tbsp chopped onion, 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds, 0.5 tsp gochugaru, and 0.5 Tbsp chopped chives. Allowing the sauce to sit for a bit can deepen its flavor.
Step 8
If you don’t have stir-fried kimchi, finely chop some well-fermented kimchi. Mix it with about 0.5 Tbsp of sesame oil and a pinch of sugar. Adjust the seasoning to ensure it’s not too spicy.
Step 9
All the components for your special Kongnamul Bap are now ready! Serve warm rice topped generously with the prepared soybean sprouts, stir-fried beef, seasoning sauce, seaweed flakes, and the seasoned kimchi. Mix everything together for an incredibly delicious meal!
