Ingredients
  • Shredded Korean radish (mu) 3 handfuls (approx. 300g)
  • Minced garlic 1 Tbsp
  • Sesame oil 1.5 Tbsp
  • Water 1/2 cup (100ml)
  • Salt 1 tsp (adjust to taste)
  • Toasted sesame seeds (ground) 1.5 Tbsp

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, wash the radish thoroughly. Then, slice it into very thin and fine shreds. Aim for consistent thinness so that the radish becomes tender and soft when cooked.

Step 2

Take a generous handful of the shredded radish. You’ll need three such handfuls in total. This amounts to approximately 300g of radish.

Step 3

Now, let’s stir-fry! Place all the shredded radish into a pot or a deep pan. Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic and 1.5 tablespoons of sesame oil. Turn the heat to low and gently stir-fry everything evenly. You’ll notice the radish starting to release its moisture.

Step 4

Once the radish begins to turn slightly translucent, pour in 1/2 cup (100ml) of water. Continue to stir and cook, allowing the radish to absorb the moisture and become tender in the liquid. This step ensures a moist and soft texture.

Step 5

Check if the shredded radish is tender. Now, add 1 teaspoon of salt to season. It’s best to start with a lighter seasoning and adjust to your preference, as the dish should be mildly flavored. Keep in mind that the sesame seeds will add a bit more flavor later.

Step 6

Just before turning off the heat, add a generous amount of ground toasted sesame seeds. Stir in 1.5 tablespoons of ground sesame seeds. This will enhance the nutty aroma and flavor significantly. Using freshly ground seeds makes a big difference!

Step 7

Your delicious Munamul Bokkeum is now ready! Transfer it to a serving dish. This side dish is also wonderful mixed into a bowl of warm rice.
