Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare a fresh head of cabbage. Remove the outer leaves, then break or cut the cabbage into manageable pieces and place them in a large basin.

Step 2

Rinse the cabbage thoroughly under running water, ensuring you clean between the leaves to remove any dirt or debris. A good rinse is essential.

Step 3

For an extra clean result, you can add a splash of vinegar to a basin of water, soak the cabbage for about 5 minutes, and then rinse again under running water. (Optional step)

Step 4

Now it’s time to cook the cabbage. We’ll use a pot instead of a steamer. Fill the pot with enough water to submerge the cabbage, then add the prepared cabbage pieces.

Step 5

Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, cook the cabbage for 7 minutes. Be careful not to overcook, as it can become too mushy. Check for desired tenderness during cooking.

Step 6

After 7 minutes, carefully remove the cooked cabbage from the boiling water and immediately transfer it to a basin filled with cold water. This shock in cold water helps maintain a pleasant texture and freshness.

Step 7

Drain the cabbage thoroughly after cooling it in the cold water. Place it in a colander to allow all excess water to drip away. Remaining water can make your wraps soggy.

Step 8

Serve the tender, drained boiled cabbage warm. It’s perfect for making wraps with rice, ssamjang (Korean dipping sauce), or your favorite accompanying vegetables. Enjoy a satisfying and delicious meal!
