Main Ingredients
- 1 can (large) tuna
- 2 handfuls dried cut seaweed (approx. 10g)
Seasonings & Others
- Soy sauce or fish sauce
- Salt (for seasoning)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic (optional, for extra flavor!)
- 2L water
- Soy sauce or fish sauce
- Salt (for seasoning)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic (optional, for extra flavor!)
- 2L water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, soak the dried cut seaweed in cold water for about 15-20 minutes until fully rehydrated. Gently rinse the soaked seaweed under running water, squeeze out excess moisture, and cut it into bite-sized pieces if needed. Place the prepared seaweed into a pot.
Step 2
Drain some of the oil from the tuna can, or add the entire can including the oil. (The tuna oil adds a wonderful umami to the soup!) Add the tuna to the pot with the seaweed. Add about half a tablespoon of soy sauce or fish sauce. Drizzle in 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. Stir-fry over medium-low heat for 2-3 minutes. For an even deeper and richer flavor, you can add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic at this stage.
Step 3
Pour 2L of water into the pot with the sautéed seaweed and tuna. Using anchovy broth will result in a deeper flavor, but plain water works perfectly fine too.
Step 4
Bring the soup to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium-low and simmer for 10-15 minutes until the seaweed is tender and the broth has developed a rich flavor. Simmering thoroughly is key to unlocking the deliciousness. Finally, adjust the seasoning with salt to your preference. Your tasty Tuna and Seaweed Soup is ready!
