How to Make Fried Tofu and Crab Stick Salad with Mustard Dressing

I used to make cold salads only with jellyfish. But finding frozen fried tofu and crab sticks in my freezer gave me an idea to create this refreshing salad using these ingredients. It’s a recipe I came up with and it turned out wonderfully!

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Let’s start by making the delicious dressing for our cold salad. In a small bowl, combine 1 Tbsp of mustard paste, 1 Tbsp of sugar, 2 Tbsp of tangy vinegar, ½ Tbsp of savory soy sauce, and a pinch of toasted sesame seeds. Whisk everything together with a small whisk or spoon until smooth and well combined. A thoroughly mixed dressing will blend harmoniously with the ingredients, making your salad even more delightful.

Step 2

Now, let’s prepare the star ingredient: fried tofu. Since the frozen fried tofu is usually fried before being frozen, it’s beneficial to briefly blanch it in hot water to remove excess oil and soften it. Bring a pot of water to a boil, add the frozen fried tofu sheets, and blanch them for about 10 seconds. Immediately remove them, rinse under cold water, and gently squeeze out all the excess moisture. Once drained, cut the fried tofu into bite-sized pieces, about 2-3 cm wide.

Step 3

Next, prepare the crab sticks. Gently shred the crab sticks lengthwise along their natural grain. For a better texture, try to shred them into pieces about 1 cm thick. Shredding them too finely might diminish the satisfying chewiness.

Step 4

With all the ingredients prepped, transfer the cut fried tofu and shredded crab sticks into a large mixing bowl. Pour the prepared mustard dressing evenly over the ingredients. Finally, gently toss everything together to ensure the dressing coats all the components beautifully. Your crisp and refreshing fried tofu and crab stick salad is now ready! It’s delicious served immediately, or you can chill it in the refrigerator for a short while for an even more invigorating taste.
