Ingredients
  • 1 handful of fresh seaweed
  • 4 large lettuce leaves
  • 1.5 bowls of cooked rice
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 small can of tuna (drained)
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce for soup (guk-ganjang)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • A pinch of toasted sesame seeds

Seasoning
  • 2 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1.5 Tbsp vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 1.5 Tbsp sugar

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Wash the lettuce leaves thoroughly under running water and pat them dry. Then, shred them into bite-sized pieces. It’s best not to chop them too finely to maintain a pleasant crunch.

Step 2

Rinse the seaweed several times in cold water to remove excess salt, then squeeze out any excess moisture. In a bowl, combine the rinsed seaweed with soy sauce for soup, toasted sesame seeds, and sesame oil to season it.

Step 3

Gently mix the seasoned seaweed with your hands until well combined, and let it sit for a while. (If you don’t have seaweed, you can use more of other fresh vegetables like perilla leaves or more lettuce instead. This will give you a fresh vegetable flavor profile.)

Step 4

Prepare the bibimbap sauce. In a small bowl, mix together the gochujang, sugar, vinegar, and toasted sesame seeds. Stir well until the sugar is fully dissolved. This blend creates a perfectly balanced sweet, sour, and spicy flavor.

Step 5

Drain the oil completely from the canned tuna. Drizzle a teaspoon of lemon juice over the drained tuna. This helps to remove any fishy odor and enhances its flavor.

Step 6

Fry the eggs according to your preference. You can make sunny-side-up eggs with runny yolks or over-easy eggs for a firmer texture. Both work well!

Step 7

Now, assemble your delicious bibimbap! In a large bowl, place the warm cooked rice. Top it with the fried egg, shredded lettuce, seasoned seaweed, and drained tuna. Drizzle generously with the prepared bibimbap sauce and a final touch of sesame oil. Mix everything together thoroughly with chopsticks or a spoon and enjoy your flavorful meal!
