A 7-Minute Recipe for Instant Noodle Porridge (Ramyeon Juk) When You Need It Fast!
Feeling under the weather and don’t want to wait for porridge delivery, or tired of plain instant noodles? Invest just 7 minutes and create a satisfying and delicious Ramyeon Juk! It might not win any beauty contests, but like the saying goes, ‘small peppers are spicy’ – this recipe is surprisingly excellent! (※ The spoon used for measuring is a standard Korean rice spoon.)
Ingredients
- 1 packet of instant noodles (Ramyeon)
- 1 bowl of cooked rice (warm)
- 1 egg
- 1/2 strip of pork belly (about 50g)
- Water (according to the amount indicated on the ramyeon package)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare any leftover pork belly you have. Using scissors or a knife, cut it into small, bite-sized pieces (about 1-2 cm). This ensures it blends well into the porridge for a better texture.
Step 2
Pour water into a pot, using the amount recommended on the ramyeon package. Before the water boils, add both the soup base and the vegetable flakes. This allows the savory flavors to infuse the water from the start, making it tastier.
Step 3
Once the water comes to a rolling boil, add the powdered soup base. Since you’ve already added the liquid flavorings, the powdered soup will deepen the broth’s color and enhance its aroma.
Step 4
Add the pre-cut pork belly to the pot. As the pork belly simmers in the broth, its fat will render, adding a rich, savory, and delicious flavor to the porridge.
Step 5
Now, add the instant noodles. Gently loosen the noodles with chopsticks to prevent them from clumping together before adding them to the pot. (Approximately 3 minutes elapsed time).
Step 6
Continue to boil for about 3 more minutes, or until the noodles are cooked. To make it easier to eat, lift the noodles with chopsticks and cut them into manageable lengths with scissors or a knife. (Total time elapsed: 6 minutes).
Step 7
After cutting the noodles, add one bowl of warm cooked rice to the pot. Stir gently to help the rice break down and mix with the broth, creating a porridge-like consistency. (Total time elapsed: 6 minutes 30 seconds).
Step 8
Finally, crack one egg directly into the pot. Stir quickly with chopsticks to disperse the egg throughout the mixture. Cook for another 30 seconds or so until the egg is softly set, completing your Ramyeon Juk! (Total time elapsed: 7 minutes).
