  • Cooking : Stir-fry
  • Servings : 1 serving
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients
  • Scallions, 210g (after trimming)
  • Cabbage, 80g
  • Canned Tuna, 85g can (1)
  • Egg, 1
  • Brown Rice (or your preferred rice), 1 serving

Seasoning
  • Oyster Sauce, 1 Tbsp (use low-sodium oyster sauce for a diet option)
  • Tuna Extract, 1 Tbsp
  • Olive Oil, 1 Tbsp

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, remove the tough core from the cabbage. Then, thinly shred the cabbage into strips about 3-5mm thick. Prepare one 85g can of tuna and one egg.

Step 2

In a large bowl, add enough water to submerge the shredded cabbage. Stir in 3 tablespoons of vinegar and let it soak for about 5 minutes. This helps to remove any residual pesticides or impurities.

Step 3

After 5 minutes, gently agitate the cabbage with your hands while rinsing it under running water. Repeat this rinsing process 3-4 times to remove the vinegar smell and ensure it’s clean. Drain the cabbage thoroughly in a colander.

Step 4

Now, heat a frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the drained shredded cabbage and 1 tablespoon of olive oil.

Step 5

Stir-fry the cabbage, tossing it frequently, until it becomes translucent and slightly softened. Be careful not to overcook it to the point of becoming mushy.

Step 6

Once the cabbage is translucent, add 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce and 1 tablespoon of tuna extract. If you’re making this for a diet, consider using a low-sodium oyster sauce for a healthier option.

Step 7

Stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes, ensuring the sauce is evenly distributed and coats the cabbage. Keep the heat at medium-high, but adjust as needed to prevent burning.

Step 8

Drain the canned tuna thoroughly using paper towels to remove as much oil as possible. Add the drained tuna to the pan and stir-fry with the cabbage for about 1 minute to combine and remove any fishy odor.

Step 9

Arrange the cooked cabbage and tuna mixture around the edges of the frying pan, creating a circular well in the center, like a donut shape.

Step 10

Carefully crack the egg into the cleared space in the center of the pan. Try not to break the yolk.

Step 11

Cover the frying pan with a lid and reduce the heat to low. Let it cook gently until the egg white is set and the yolk is still runny (soft-boiled). This should take about 2-3 minutes.

Step 12

You can adjust the cooking time based on your preference for how well-done you like your egg. Cook longer for a fully set yolk, or less for a runnier yolk.

Step 13

Prepare your serving bowl by spreading out the brown rice (or your preferred rice) evenly at the bottom. Fluff the rice slightly so it’s not clumpy.

Step 14

Carefully slide the cabbage, tuna, and egg mixture directly from the frying pan onto the rice in the bowl. Tilting the pan gently can help keep the ingredients intact.

Step 15

Drizzle with sesame oil to your liking for added flavor and aroma.

Step 16

Finally, sprinkle toasted sesame seeds generously over the top. This completes Kyuhyun’s Cabbage and Tuna Rice Bowl recipe from ‘I Live Alone’! Enjoy this simple, hearty, and delicious meal.
