Cooking Instructions
Step 1
This recipe is incredibly simple! All you need to do is put all the ingredients together and simmer until boiling. It’s a guaranteed delicious fish cake soup. First, briefly blanch the fish cakes in boiling water to remove any impurities and excess oil. (Ingredients: 15 fish cakes, 6 stalks green onion (white parts), 2 onions, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 10 dried anchovies for broth, 1 radish piece (approx. 3cm), pinch of black pepper. We’ll adjust the final seasoning with soy sauce or salt.)
Step 2
While the soup is simmering, let’s prepare the delicious dipping sauce! (Ingredients: 10 Tbsp soy sauce or seasoned soy sauce, 3 Tbsp chopped green onion, 2 Tbsp red pepper flakes, 2 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds, 1 Tbsp sesame oil, pinch of black pepper). Combine all these ingredients in a small bowl and mix well.
Step 3
Cut the blanched fish cakes into bite-sized pieces or skewer them onto wooden sticks like the classic street food style. Strain the broth, which was simmered with anchovies and radish, through a fine-mesh sieve for a clear soup. If you like a bit of heat, add some chopped chili peppers, or for extra freshness, thinly sliced green onions.
Step 4
Dip the tender, cooked fish cakes into the prepared dipping sauce. The combination of the hot, deep broth, chewy fish cakes, and the spicy-sweet sauce will fill your mouth and bring back fond memories of your school days.
