Heartwarming and Delicious Beef Curry
How to Easily Make Rich Beef Curry in No Time!
Curry is one of Japan’s traditional dishes, highly popular among Japanese people, and has become a staple side dish that’s easy to prepare.
Ingredients
- Curry roux or powder 100g
- Beef 100g
- 3 Potatoes
- 1 Onion
- 3 cups Water
- 2 Tbsp Cooking oil
- A pinch of Black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare your vegetables and meat. Peel and dice the onion into bite-sized pieces (about 1.5-2cm). Peel and dice the potatoes into similar-sized cubes. (Optional: add half a carrot, diced, for vibrant color). Gently press the beef with paper towels to absorb excess blood, which helps remove any gamey flavors.
Step 2
Heat a pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent. Sautéing the onions well brings out their natural sweetness, enhancing the curry’s depth of flavor.
Step 3
Once the onions begin to turn golden brown, add a pinch of black pepper and continue to sauté. Cook until the onions are a deep golden brown, which should take about 3-5 minutes. This caramelization step significantly boosts the curry’s umami.
Step 4
When the onions are nicely caramelized, add the drained beef and diced potatoes to the pot. Increase the heat to high and stir-fry until the beef is browned on the outside and the vegetables are lightly cooked.
Step 5
Pour in 3 cups of water (approximately 600ml). The amount of water can be adjusted based on the specific curry powder or roux you are using; refer to the product packaging for guidance. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
Step 6
Once the water is boiling, skim off any foam or impurities that rise to the surface. This step ensures a cleaner, clearer curry. After skimming, gradually add the curry powder or roux, stirring well to dissolve it completely and prevent lumps.
Step 7
Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the curry simmer gently until it thickens to your desired consistency. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pot. Simmer for about 5-10 minutes until the curry is rich and creamy.
Step 8
Serve the rich, glossy beef curry generously over a bowl of hot steamed rice. It’s an incredibly satisfying meal that’s sure to be a hit! For an extra treat, enjoy it with a boiled egg or some crusty bread.
