For Making Burdock Tea
- 526g fresh burdock root
For Brewing the Tea
- 1L filtered water
- 7g roasted burdock root
- 1L filtered water
- 7g roasted burdock root
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
To make the long burdock root easier to wash and dry, first cut it into four equal lengths. This will make the cleaning process much more manageable in the next step.
Step 2
Rinse the quartered burdock root under running water. Use a scrubbing brush or sponge to thoroughly clean the surface, removing any dirt or debris. Since we’ll be using the peel, a good scrub is essential.
Step 3
After washing, pat the burdock root completely dry with paper towels. Residual moisture can prolong the drying time. Once dry, slice the burdock root thinly into round shapes. Thinner slices will dry more effectively.
Step 4
Arrange the thinly sliced burdock root in a single layer in your air fryer basket, ensuring the pieces do not overlap. This allows for even drying.
Step 5
Set your air fryer to 170°C (340°F) and dry for 20 minutes. It’s a good idea to open the air fryer midway through to check the burdock and flip the pieces for more uniform drying.
Step 6
Once dried in the air fryer, the burdock root needs to be roasted. Transfer the dried burdock to a frying pan and roast over low heat for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. Roasting deepens the flavor and makes the burdock easier to store.
Step 7
Now, let’s brew the delicious burdock tea. Add 1 liter of filtered water to an electric kettle or pot, and add about 7g of the roasted burdock root. You can adjust this ratio based on your preference.
Step 8
Once the water boils, turn off the heat and let it steep for about 5 minutes to allow the flavor and aroma of the burdock root to infuse. Pour the warm burdock tea into your favorite mug and savor it slowly. Enjoy your homemade burdock tea, packed with health benefits and flavor!
