Gentle Tteok-Mandu Guk for Babies
Easy Tteok-Mandu Guk Recipe for Babies: A Recommended First Soup!
This is a special tteok-mandu guk made quickly with pretty flower-shaped tteok and savory baby-friendly dumplings from the freezer. I used dumplings that are not too salty and come in a small size perfect for babies, and my second child absolutely loved it! For babies who have moved beyond purees and are starting to eat well, gift them a nutritious and warm meal.
Ingredients
- Tteok (rice cakes) for 1 serving (Soak frozen tteok in cold water beforehand)
- Baby-friendly dumplings, 10 pieces (Recommend small, non-salty ones)
- Clear seafood broth, 1L (or anchovy-kelp broth)
- 1/4 Onion (finely chopped or thinly sliced)
- 1/3 Scallion (preferably the white part, finely chopped)
- 1 Egg
- 1/2 Tbsp Soy sauce for soup (Use low-sodium soy sauce for babies)
- Beef crumble (Optional, for added flavor)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, since frozen tteok can be hard, soak them in lukewarm cold water for about 15 minutes to soften them. Once the tteok are pliable, drain them and set aside.
Step 2
It’s important to prepare a clear and refreshing broth for your baby. You can use store-bought seafood broth or make your own by boiling anchovies and kelp. Prepare about 1 liter of broth.
Step 3
Finely chop or thinly slice the onion, which will add sweetness to the tteok-mandu guk, making it easy for your baby to eat. Finely chop the white part of the scallion; this will give the soup a refreshing taste and a subtle aroma.
Step 4
Whisk the egg until smooth, which will add richness and a soft texture. Before whisking, crack the egg, remove any shell fragments, and gently whisk it without creating too much foam.
Step 5
Add the softened tteok, baby-friendly dumplings, chopped onion, and sliced scallions to the prepared clear broth. Season gently with half a tablespoon of baby-specific soy sauce for soup. (You can also add beef crumble if desired.)
Step 6
Once the tteok and dumplings are cooked and the broth is simmering, slowly drizzle the whisked egg mixture in a circular motion. When the egg is cooked and floats to the surface, turn off the heat and serve the delicious tteok-mandu guk to your baby.
