Fresh Homemade Guacamole
Make Delicious Guacamole Perfect for Snacks and Appetizers!
As the weather gets warmer, I really crave a cold beer in the evening. Guacamole is a perfect accompaniment for enjoying a beer at home! You can make a big batch and enjoy it as a healthy diet food too. It’s refreshing and flavorful, and incredibly easy to make.
Main Ingredients
- 3 ripe avocados
- 1 small onion
- 6 cherry tomatoes
- 2 pickled chili peppers (jalapeños can be substituted)
Seasoning
- 5 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- Salt to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 5 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- Salt to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper to taste
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare all the ingredients for your guacamole. Choose avocados that are ripe and slightly soft to the touch. Wash and dry the onion and cherry tomatoes. Have your pickled chili peppers ready (you can use jalapeños if you prefer). For the pickled chili peppers, about 2 small ones are typically used.
Step 2
Cut the ripe avocados in half lengthwise. Carefully twist the halves to separate them, and then remove the pit. A sharp tap with the knife blade into the pit and a twist will usually release it.
Step 3
Insert a spoon into the space between the avocado skin and the flesh. Gently scoop out the avocado flesh and place it into a mixing bowl.
Step 4
Add 5 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice to the avocado in the mixing bowl. The lemon juice not only adds a bright, zesty flavor but also helps prevent the avocado from browning.
Step 5
Using a fork or a potato masher, gently mash the avocado. It’s best to leave some small chunks for texture rather than mashing it completely smooth.
Step 6
Finely dice the onion. Finely chopped onion adds a pleasant crunch and pungent flavor to the guacamole.
Step 7
For the cherry tomatoes, slice them in half and scoop out the inner pulp and seeds. While you can include them, removing the seeds prevents the guacamole from becoming too watery. This step ensures a better consistency.
Step 8
Finely dice the scooped-out tomato flesh. The red color adds visual appeal, and the tomatoes contribute a fresh, slightly sweet flavor.
Step 9
Finely mince the pickled chili peppers (or jalapeños). These add a touch of heat and a distinctive kick that balances the richness of the avocado. Adjust the amount based on your spice preference.
Step 10
Add the finely diced tomatoes and diced onion to the mashed avocado in the mixing bowl. Gently stir to combine.
Step 11
Add the minced pickled chili peppers and 1 teaspoon of minced garlic to the mixture. The garlic adds a pungent aroma and flavor.
Step 12
Season with salt to your liking. It’s best to add salt gradually, tasting as you go, to avoid over-salting.
Step 13
Add a pinch of freshly ground black pepper. This enhances the overall flavor profile and adds a subtle warmth.
Step 14
Gently mix all the ingredients together until just combined. You want the flavors to meld without overmixing, preserving the texture of the avocado.
Step 15
Your delicious homemade guacamole is ready! Serve it on warm tortillas or with tortilla chips for a fantastic appetizer with beer. It’s also great as a healthy meal option when paired with grilled chicken breast or other vegetables.
Step 16
Enjoy your fresh and healthy guacamole! It’s wonderful spread on toast, used in sandwiches, or as a vibrant dip for various snacks.
