Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, wash the carrot and julienne it thinly. Heat a little olive oil in a pan, add the julienned carrots, sprinkle with a pinch of salt, and stir-fry until softened. The key here is to bring out the natural sweetness of the carrot.

Step 2

In a bowl, crack the 2 fresh eggs and add a tiny pinch of salt. Whisk well. Lightly oil a preheated pan and pour in the whisked eggs. Scramble them by stirring with chopsticks until fluffy and cooked through.

Step 3

Pat dry the bacon strips with paper towels. Place them in a pan over medium heat and cook until golden brown and crispy on both sides. If a lot of grease accumulates, wipe it with paper towels during cooking for a cleaner result.

Step 4

Halve the ripe avocado, remove the pit, peel it, and then thinly slice it. Be careful not to slice too thinly, as it might fall apart. Aim for a moderate thickness for best results.

Step 5

To the warm cooked rice, add sesame oil, salt, and toasted sesame seeds. Mix thoroughly with a spatula until well combined. Let it cool slightly so the rice doesn’t become mushy when you assemble the kimbap.

Step 6

Take 4 of the kimbap seaweed sheets and cut them exactly in half lengthwise. This will create larger pieces for easier folding.

Step 7

Cut the remaining 2 kimbap seaweed sheets into four equal smaller squares. These smaller pieces will be used to help form a good base for the folded kimbap.

Step 8

Now, let’s assemble the base. Take a halved seaweed sheet (one of the 4 larger pieces) and attach two of the smaller, quartered seaweed pieces to its sides, overlapping slightly to create an even wider sheet. You can use a little water or rice grains to help them stick securely.

Step 9

On the assembled wider seaweed sheet, place one lettuce leaf. Layer on the stir-fried julienned carrots, followed by the roast beef or ham slices. Add a portion of the seasoned rice on top. Fold the sides inwards towards the center three times, like wrapping a gift, and then tightly wrap with plastic wrap to hold its shape.

Step 10

For the next variation, place one lettuce leaf on the seaweed base. Add the stir-fried carrot juliennes, 3 slices of avocado, 4 blanched shrimp, and a layer of rice. Fold this combination three times towards the center and wrap securely with plastic wrap. The combination of shrimp and avocado is truly divine!

Step 11

Next, we make the Bacon Egg kimbap. Lay down one lettuce leaf, followed by the stir-fried carrots, 2 strips of crispy bacon, the fluffy scrambled eggs, and then the rice. Fold this three times towards the center and wrap tightly with plastic wrap. The rich flavor of bacon and eggs will be a delightful surprise.

Step 12

Finally, let’s assemble the Roast Chicken kimbap. Place one lettuce leaf on the seaweed base, followed by the stir-fried carrots, one slice of cheese, about 5 pieces of the cooked chicken for salad, and the rice. Fold this three times towards the center and wrap securely with plastic wrap. This makes for a satisfying and flavorful kimbap.

Step 13

Now, slice your beautifully crafted folded kimbap into bite-sized pieces. Serve with your chosen dressings: Caesar, wasabi soy sauce, creamy Thousand Island, or sriracha. Enjoy these creative and delicious kimbap rolls – they’re perfect for a special meal or a delightful party treat!
