  • 2.5 Tbsp Mala Paste
  • 1 Tbsp Peanut Butter (for extra richness)

Generous Toppings
  • Assorted Mushrooms (e.g., King Oyster, Shiitake)
  • Napa Cabbage hearts
  • Fresh Bean Sprouts
  • Beef Brisket (thinly sliced)
  • Tofu Noodles (or your favorite noodles)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, pour the entire 500ml packet of beef bone broth into a pot. This rich broth will form the deep foundation of your Mala Tang.

Step 2

Add 2.5 tablespoons of the Mala paste to the pot and stir well to dissolve it into the broth. You’ll soon start to smell the intoxicating spicy and numbing aroma of mala.

Step 3

Once the broth comes to a rolling boil, add your prepared mushrooms, crunchy Napa cabbage hearts, and fresh bean sprouts. As the vegetables cook, they will naturally release their sweetness into the soup.

Step 4

Now, add 100-200g of thinly sliced beef brisket for an extra layer of flavor. As the beef cooks, the broth will become even richer and more delicious. Be careful not to overcook the beef, as it can become tough; cook just until it’s done.

Step 5

If you desire that creamy, deep flavor you get at Mala Tang restaurants, now is the time to stir in 1 tablespoon of peanut butter. This will make the broth smoother and add a much richer, more complex taste. Don’t skip this step!

Step 6

I tried using tofu noodles instead of regular glass noodles this time, and their chewy texture paired wonderfully with the Mala Tang broth. Feel free to add your favorite noodles or tofu noodles to suit your taste.

Step 7

And there you have it – your own delicious Mala Tang, made right at home! It’s best enjoyed piping hot. Enjoy this wonderful dish with your family!
