Main Ingredients
- 1 can (approx. 150g) Tuna
- 1 stalk Green Onion (approx. 15cm long)
- 1/2 medium Onion
Seasoning & Others
- 2 Tbsp Doenjang (Soybean Paste)
- 2 Tbsp Gochujang (Chili Paste)
- 1 Tbsp Gochugaru (Chili Powder)
- 1.5 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 2 Cheongyang Peppers (Korean Red Peppers)
- 2 Tbsp Doenjang (Soybean Paste)
- 2 Tbsp Gochujang (Chili Paste)
- 1 Tbsp Gochugaru (Chili Powder)
- 1.5 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 2 Cheongyang Peppers (Korean Red Peppers)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash and prepare the vegetables. Slice the green onion into approximately 15cm lengths. Lightly grease a pan with cooking oil and sauté the sliced green onions over medium-low heat until fragrant and tender, creating a flavorful scallion oil.
Step 2
Once the green onions are lightly browned, add the sliced onion and stir-fry together. Continue to cook until the onion becomes translucent and soft, about 3-4 minutes. Cooking over medium-low heat prevents burning and enhances the flavor.
Step 3
When the onions are translucent, add about 1/2 cup (100ml) of water. This helps to prevent the seasonings from sticking and allows the ingredients to meld together smoothly.
Step 4
Add 2 tablespoons of doenjang (soybean paste) and stir well to dissolve. Doenjang adds a deep umami flavor that complements the tuna perfectly.
Step 5
Next, add 2 tablespoons of gochujang (chili paste). Gochujang provides a spicy kick and a glossy sheen to the dish, enhancing its overall appeal.
Step 6
Stir in 1 tablespoon of gochugaru (chili powder). If you prefer a spicier flavor, you can use regular chili powder instead of fine chili powder.
Step 7
Add 1.5 tablespoons of minced garlic for a fragrant aroma. Garlic helps to eliminate any fishy smell from the tuna and enriches the overall taste.
Step 8
Stir all the seasonings together and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Cook until the sauce thickens and the flavors have melded well, about 5-7 minutes. This allows the seasoning to deepen.
Step 9
Drain the canned tuna (or leave a little oil for extra richness) and add it to the pan. Gently mix the tuna with the sauce. If you prefer a richer, more savory taste, you can leave some of the tuna oil in the can when draining.
Step 10
Finely chop the 2 Cheongyang peppers and add them to the pan. Stir and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce has slightly reduced. Your delicious tuna ssa mbap sauce is ready! Serve generously over warm rice with fresh leafy greens for wraps. Enjoy!
