Crispy & Sweet Tteokgangjeong (Korean Fried Rice Cakes)
Crispy Tteokbokki Rice Cakes, Fried Tteokkochi Recipe
A perfect snack or treat! Let’s make delicious Tteokgangjeong, a popular Korean street food made with fried rice cakes coated in a sweet and savory sauce.
Main Ingredients
- 30 Tteokbokki rice cakes (preferably the longer ones for skewers)
- Cooking oil (for frying, plenty needed)
Sweet & Savory Sauce
- 2 Tbsp Ketchup
- 1 Tbsp Soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp Honey
- 1 Tbsp Corn syrup or Oligosaccharide
- 2 Tbsp Ketchup
- 1 Tbsp Soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp Honey
- 1 Tbsp Corn syrup or Oligosaccharide
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Pour a generous amount of cooking oil into a wide frying pan and heat over medium heat. Add the tteokbokki rice cakes and fry until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside. Once fried, remove the rice cakes and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil; this will help them stay crispier.
Step 2
In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, soy sauce, honey, and corn syrup (or oligosaccharide). Whisk well until all ingredients are thoroughly mixed and form a smooth sauce. Feel free to adjust the sweetness and saltiness to your personal preference.
Step 3
Add the drained, crispy rice cakes to the prepared sauce. Toss gently over low heat for about 1-2 minutes, ensuring each piece is evenly coated. Cooking briefly in the sauce helps it adhere beautifully to the rice cakes, enhancing the flavor.
Step 4
Your delicious Tteokgangjeong (fried rice cake skewers) are now ready! They are best enjoyed immediately while warm to experience the perfect contrast between the crispy exterior and chewy interior. If you have leftovers, they tend to lose their crispiness as they cool, so it’s recommended to consume them fresh.
