Essential Ingredients
  • 1 bowl Tteokguk tteok (rice cakes for soup)
  • 2-3 Tbsp Honey (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon powder (adjust to taste)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

If your Tteokguk tteok are frozen, soak them in cold water for about 10-15 minutes until they soften. If they are refrigerated, simply rinse them under running water. Pro Tip: To prevent frozen rice cakes from sticking together or cracking, lightly coat them with a bit of cooking oil and mix well before storing. This keeps them soft and pliable for longer.

Step 2

Drain the softened Tteokguk tteok thoroughly. Use a colander and then pat them dry with paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. Removing excess moisture is key to achieving a crispy texture in the air fryer. Alternatively, you can achieve a similar delicious result by pan-frying the rice cakes in a generous amount of oil until golden and slightly crispy.

Step 3

Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper and spread the dried Tteokguk tteok in an even layer. Air fry at 180°C (350°F) for about 8-10 minutes. Cooking times may vary depending on your air fryer model, so keep an eye on them. You’re looking for them to be lightly golden and slightly puffed, resembling a fried texture. These crispy rice cakes are delicious even on their own.

Step 4

Once the Tteokguk tteok are nicely air-fried, transfer them to a bowl. While still warm, drizzle generously with 2-3 tablespoons of honey. Sprinkle about 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon powder over the top. Gently toss everything together until the honey and cinnamon are evenly coated on the rice cakes. Enjoy your crispy, chewy, sweet, and cinnamon-spiced rice cake bites!
