Main Ingredients
  • 15 frozen dumplings (choose your favorite kind)
  • 1/2 apple
  • 1/2 onion
  • A small amount of carrot
  • A small amount of pickle (dill or sweet pickle)

Tangsuyuk Sauce
  • 1 cup water (200ml)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch or potato starch
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup or oligodang

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the vegetables and fruit for the tangsuyuk sauce. Remove the core from the apple and cut it into 1cm cubes, with or without the peel. Dice the onion into similar-sized pieces. Slice the carrot thinly or cut into cubes, and chop the pickles into bite-sized pieces. It’s nice to cut the carrots into small pieces for children.

Step 2

Fry the dumplings until golden and crispy. Preheat a pan and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Place the frozen dumplings in the hot oil and pan-fry them over medium-low heat until golden brown and crisp on both sides. Ensure they are cooked through. Be careful not to overheat the oil, as this can burn the outside while leaving the inside uncooked.

Step 3

Now, let’s make the delicious tangsuyuk sauce. In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of ketchup, 1 tablespoon of vinegar, and 2 tablespoons of corn syrup. Stir well and bring to a boil over high heat.

Step 4

Once the sauce begins to bubble, add all the prepared apple, carrot, pickles, and onion. The natural moisture and flavors from the vegetables will enhance the sauce, creating a richer taste.

Step 5

Simmer the vegetables in the sauce for about 1-2 minutes. Cook just long enough for the vegetables to soften slightly while retaining a bit of their crispness. Avoid overcooking, as this can make the vegetables mushy.

Step 6

It’s time to thicken the sauce. In a small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of starch with 2 tablespoons of water until smooth and lump-free. This is your starch slurry. Gradually pour this slurry into the simmering sauce while stirring continuously. Adjust the amount to achieve your desired sauce consistency.

Step 7

After adding the starch slurry, continue to cook over low heat for about 1 minute, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens. Continuous stirring prevents lumps and ensures a smooth texture. If the sauce becomes too thick, you can add a little more water.

Step 8

Finally, it’s time to enjoy your Mandu Tangsuyuk! Arrange the crispy fried dumplings attractively on a plate. Generously pour the warm tangsuyuk sauce over them. Ensure there’s plenty of sauce to coat the dumplings without making them soggy. For an extra touch, you can sprinkle some sesame seeds on top for garnish. Enjoy your meal!
