Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Wash the potatoes thoroughly. You can either peel them or leave the skin on – if you keep the skin, scrub it well to remove any dirt. Place the potatoes in a pot, cover with cold water, and add a pinch of salt and a little sugar. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium-low and simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and fluffy when pierced with a fork.
Step 2
While the potatoes are boiling, prepare the delicious butter garlic sauce. In a small bowl, combine 5 Tbsp of honey, 4 Tbsp of minced garlic, and 0.5 Tbsp of mayonnaise (if using). Stir everything together until well blended and smooth.
Step 3
Once the potatoes are cooked through and easily pierced with a fork, drain them completely in a colander. It’s best to mash them while they are still warm, so let some of the steam escape, and then proceed to the next step.
Step 4
While still warm, use a wide spatula or a sturdy plate to firmly press down on each potato, flattening it into a disc shape. Be gentle but firm to shape them without breaking them completely.
Step 5
Now, preheat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. Add the 3 slices of butter and let them melt, coating the bottom of the pan. Be careful not to let the butter burn.
Step 6
Place the flattened potato discs into the preheated pan. Generously brush or spoon the prepared butter garlic sauce over each potato, ensuring it’s covered liberally. Don’t be shy with the sauce – this is key to the flavor!
Step 7
If you like, sprinkle some freshly ground black pepper for extra aroma. For a richer taste and a delightful cheesy finish, you can also top the potatoes with shredded mozzarella or your favorite melting cheese. Cook until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Continue cooking until the bottom of the potatoes becomes a lovely golden brown and develops a crispy, almost ‘nurungji’ (scorched rice) texture. Enjoy your delicious creation!
