Today, I’m using up leftover whipping cream from making cheesecake to create a delicious ‘Cream Tteokbokki’! The rich cream sauce and chewy tteokbokki are a match made in heaven.
Tteokbokki Ingredients
- 800g Jewel-shaped rice cakes (Joraengi tteok)
- 4 sticks Imitation crab sticks
- 1 Onion (small size)
- 160g Bacon
- 1 Tbsp Butter
Carbonara Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Minced garlic
- 400ml Milk
- 200ml Heavy cream (whipping cream)
- 1 Tbsp Chicken stock
- 2 slices Cheddar cheese
- 2 Tbsp Grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 Tbsp Minced garlic
- 400ml Milk
- 200ml Heavy cream (whipping cream)
- 1 Tbsp Chicken stock
- 2 slices Cheddar cheese
- 2 Tbsp Grated Parmesan cheese
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, soak the 800g of jewel-shaped rice cakes in cold water until they become soft and pliable. This step ensures the tteokbokki will be tender and absorb the sauce beautifully.
Step 2
Take the 4 imitation crab sticks and shred them lengthwise into thin strips. This will give them a delightful texture when fried.
Step 3
Now, fry the shredded imitation crab sticks in hot oil until they are golden brown and crispy. Be careful not to burn them.
Step 4
Once fried, place the imitation crab sticks on paper towels to drain any excess oil. This will help maintain their crispiness.
Step 5
Time to make the sauce! Melt 1 Tbsp of butter in a heated pot over medium heat. The butter will add a wonderful rich flavor.
Step 6
Add the small onion (1 piece) to the melted butter and sauté for about 1 minute until translucent. This will release the onion’s natural sweetness.
Step 7
Next, add the 160g of bacon and cook for another minute. The savory bacon and its rendered fat will deepen the flavor of the sauce.
Step 8
Stir in 1 Tbsp of minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. The aroma of garlic will make the dish even more enticing.
Step 9
Pour in 400ml of milk. This will form the creamy base of our sauce.
Step 10
Add the 200ml of heavy cream (whipping cream) and mix well. This will create a rich and smooth cream sauce.
Step 11
For an extra boost of flavor, add 1 Tbsp of chicken stock and stir to combine.
Step 12
Now, add the 800g of soaked jewel-shaped rice cakes to the pot and stir to coat them with the sauce.
Step 13
Add the 2 slices of cheddar cheese and stir until it’s completely melted. This will add a wonderful cheesy richness.
Step 14
Finally, add the 2 Tbsp of grated Parmesan cheese. Continue to simmer for about 3 more minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and all ingredients are well combined. Your delicious Carbonara Tteokbokki is ready!
Step 15
Transfer the finished tteokbokki to a serving plate. Arrange the fried imitation crab strips on top for a beautiful presentation. A sprinkle of parsley flakes adds a nice touch of color.
Step 16
For an elegant finish, garnish with a few fresh basil leaves if you have them on hand. This adds a lovely aromatic quality.
Step 17
Enjoy your delicious and creamy Carbonara Tteokbokki! Happy cooking today! ^^
