Deliciously Chewy Stir-Fried Sea Mustard Stems Recipe
Introducing a tasty stir-fried sea mustard stem dish packed with fiber, which also aids in relieving constipation. This versatile dish is perfect as a side for rice or even as a snack with drinks.
Ingredients
- 400g Salted Sea Mustard Stems
- 2 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 Tbsp Cooking Oil
- 1/2 Tbsp Oyster Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Mirin (Rice Wine)
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Rinse the salted sea mustard stems thoroughly under cold running water several times. If the saltiness is too strong, soak them in water for about 15-30 minutes to remove excess salt. Taste a small piece to check the salt level and adjust as needed. Once the saltiness is reduced, cut the sea mustard stems into bite-sized pieces (about 5cm in length is recommended).
Step 2
Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add 2 tablespoons of minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic. You want to infuse the oil with a gentle garlic aroma.
Step 3
Add the prepared sea mustard stems to the pan. Increase the heat to high and stir-fry quickly. It’s important to stir-fry rapidly to maintain a chewy texture and prevent the stems from sticking to the pan. Break up any clumps as you stir-fry.
Step 4
Add 1/2 tablespoon of oyster sauce and continue to stir-fry. The savory depth of the oyster sauce will seep into the sea mustard stems, adding a richer flavor than usual. Stir well to ensure it’s evenly distributed.
Step 5
Pour in 1 tablespoon of mirin (rice wine) and stir-fry together. Mirin helps to eliminate any fishy odors that sea mustard might have and also enhances the overall flavor of the dish. Continue to stir-fry until glossy.
Step 6
Finally, drizzle in 1 tablespoon of sesame oil for a nutty aroma. Turn off the heat, add the sesame oil, and give it a final gentle toss. Your delicious stir-fried sea mustard stems are now ready! Serve it over warm rice or plate it attractively.
