Essential Ingredients
- 2 large eggs
- 150ml water
- 48ml cooking oil (for batter)
- 2 packets Ottogi Glutinous Rice Mini Donut Mix
- 200g shredded cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, etc.)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 eggs, 150ml of water, and 48ml of cooking oil until well combined to create an egg mixture. Ensure there are no lumps for a smooth batter.
Step 2
Add the 2 packets of Ottogi Glutinous Rice Mini Donut Mix to the egg mixture. Stir with a spatula until no dry powder remains. Then, knead the dough with your hands for about 2-3 minutes until it becomes a cohesive and slightly elastic dough. Be careful not to over-knead, as this can make the cheese balls tough.
Step 3
Divide the prepared dough into portions of your desired cheese ball size (approximately 20-25g each). Wearing gloves can help prevent the dough from sticking to your hands.
Step 4
Flatten each dough portion into a disc. Place about 1-2 tablespoons of shredded cheese in the center. Carefully gather the edges of the dough to enclose the cheese completely, forming a smooth ball. Pinch the seams tightly to prevent the cheese from leaking out during frying.
Step 5
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pot over medium-high heat to 170°C (338°F). You can test the oil temperature by inserting a wooden skewer; if small bubbles form around it, the oil is ready. Carefully add the cheese balls to the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding the pot, which can lower the oil temperature. Fry for about 5 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
Step 6
Once golden and crispy, remove the cheese balls from the oil and place them on a wire rack lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While they are delicious on their own, you can elevate the flavor by dusting them with powdered sugar, cinnamon, cheese seasoning, roasted soybean powder, or drizzling them with condensed milk. Enjoy your homemade cheesy delights!
