Main Ingredients
- 2 bowls of warm cooked rice
- 1/2 can of tuna (drained)
- A little pickled radish (finely chopped)
- 1/4 onion (very finely minced)
Seasonings & Extras
- 2 Tbsp sesame oil
- Pinch of salt (to taste)
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- Pinch of black pepper
- 3 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1/2 sheet of seasoned seaweed laver (crumbled)
- 1-2 slices of cheddar cheese (optional)
- 2 Tbsp sesame oil
- Pinch of salt (to taste)
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- Pinch of black pepper
- 3 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1/2 sheet of seasoned seaweed laver (crumbled)
- 1-2 slices of cheddar cheese (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, finely chop the pickled radish and mince the onion very finely. If the onion pieces are too large, the texture might not be as pleasant, so mincing it finely will enhance the flavor. In a large bowl, combine the 2 bowls of warm rice, the drained tuna, the chopped pickled radish, and the minced onion.
Step 2
Now, let’s add the seasonings to create the delicious flavor. Add 2 tablespoons of sesame oil and 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise. Season with a pinch of salt, adjusting to your preference. A pinch of black pepper will also add depth. Finally, add the crumbled seasoned seaweed laver and a generous amount of toasted sesame seeds.
Step 3
Put on a pair of disposable gloves and gently mix everything together with your hands. It’s important to mix gently so that the rice grains don’t get mashed. Ensure all the ingredients are evenly distributed.
Step 4
Take portions of the rice mixture and shape them into small, round rice balls, about the size of a child’s bite or your preferred size. Try not to pack them too tightly; a slightly softer shape is ideal.
Step 5
Place a slice of cheddar cheese (cut into manageable pieces) on top of each rice ball. If using an oven, preheat to 180°C (350°F) and bake for about 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and slightly golden. Alternatively, microwave for 1-1.5 minutes. Your delicious cheesy tuna rice balls are ready! They taste best served warm.
