Super Simple Hotteok Recipe Using a Store-Bought Mix
Craving that nostalgic taste? Make Hotteok easily with a mix! This recipe brings the beloved Korean sweet pancake right into your kitchen with minimal effort. Perfect for a cozy snack or a delightful homemade dessert.
Ingredients- 1 packet of Hotteok mix
- 180ml water (refer to the package instructions for the exact amount)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Get your Hotteok mix package ready. These mixes typically include both the dough ingredients and a sweet sugar filling.
Step 2
Carefully read the instructions printed on the back of the Hotteok mix packaging. Each brand might have slight variations, so following the manufacturer’s guide is key to achieving the best taste and texture.
Step 3
In a bowl, combine the mix powder with 180ml of warm water. Mix with a spatula or your hands until a dough forms, ensuring there are no dry flour spots. Once it comes together as a cohesive ball, take the provided sugar filling, place it in the center of the dough, and carefully wrap the dough around it. Gently shape it into a round, flat pancake, making sure the filling is sealed inside to prevent leaks.
Step 4
Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Place the shaped Hotteok into the pan with the sealed seam side down. Start with medium-high heat to get the pan hot, then reduce to medium-low to ensure the Hotteok cooks through without burning.
Step 5
Once the bottom side is golden brown and slightly crispy, carefully flip the Hotteok using a spatula. Gently press down on the Hotteok with the spatula to make it flatter and crispier. If you don’t have a special press, the back of a ladle or a sturdy spatula can work too. Be careful not to press too hard, as this might cause the filling to leak out.
Step 6
Flip it again once the second side is golden brown, and it’s ready to enjoy! Cooking each side for about 2-3 minutes usually results in a perfectly warm and sweet Hotteok. Be careful, it’s hot!
