Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Make your fruits fresher and cleaner! For delicate fruits like strawberries, soak them in a solution of 1 liter of water mixed with 2-3 tablespoons of vinegar for about 10 minutes, then rinse under running water to reduce pesticide concerns. For firmer fruits like apples or imported fruits like lemons, using baking soda and vinegar together offers extra peace of mind. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 3-4 tablespoons of vinegar directly onto the fruit, let it sit for 10-20 minutes, then wash thoroughly.
Step 2
Enjoy vegetables like cabbage, leeks, and peppers with confidence. For vegetables often treated with pesticides, soak them in a solution of 1 liter of water with 2-3 tablespoons of vinegar for about 10 minutes, followed by a rinse with clean water. This method is effective for various types of vegetables.
Step 3
Say goodbye to musty laundry smells! During humid seasons or in winter when drying laundry indoors, vinegar is your secret weapon against unpleasant odors. Simply add 4-5 tablespoons of vinegar to both the detergent dispenser and the fabric softener dispenser of your washing machine. You’ll be amazed as the odors disappear, your laundry comes out cleaner, and the fabrics are better protected. I wish I had patented this idea before commercially available vinegar-infused detergents appeared!
Step 4
Eliminate stale odors and grime from your washing machine’s drum and rubber seals. Spraying vinegar inside the washing machine or onto the rubber gasket area will effectively neutralize odor-causing bacteria, leaving it fresh. Regular use will help maintain a more hygienic washing environment.
Step 5
Create your own healthy and diet-friendly fruit-infused vinegar! Combine distilled vinegar and fruits like pineapple or banana in a 3:1 ratio and let it steep for about 2 weeks. The resulting vinegar can be diluted with water to enjoy as a refreshing drink or used in cooking to add a delicious tangy flavor. (Note: A pineapple vinegar I made years ago remained perfectly flavorful at room temperature even after 10 years!)
Step 6
Achieve crisp and perfect ironing without damaging fabrics. Mix 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar with water in a spray bottle and lightly mist the fabric before ironing. This protects the fibers and makes ironing smoother, especially effective on collars and cuffs.
Step 7
Care for your delicate cashmere and wool items. When hand-washing cashmere or wool sweaters, add about 1/2 cup of vinegar to the final rinse water. This helps prevent stretching and keeps the fibers soft, maintaining the garment’s original shape.
Step 8
Keep your kitchen cloths and sponges hygienic and odor-free. Soak them in a mixture of 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1/2 cup of vinegar. This effectively removes grease and eliminates unpleasant smells, leaving them fresh and clean for your next use.
Step 9
A simple trick to prevent eggs from cracking while boiling! Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar and 1 tablespoon of salt to the water when boiling eggs. The vinegar and salt help to harden the eggshells, preventing them from breaking during the cooking process, ensuring you get perfectly intact boiled eggs.
Step 10
Remove fishy odors for a more pleasant culinary experience. Before grilling fish, marinate it for about 10 minutes with a mixture of 1 tablespoon of vinegar and 2 tablespoons of soju (or cooking wine). This significantly reduces any fishy smell, enhancing the flavor of your seafood dishes.
Step 11
Banish stale odors from old rice or leftover rice cake soup. For old rice, soak it briefly in water with 1 tablespoon of vinegar before cooking to eliminate any musty smell. When making rice cake soup, adding 1 tablespoon of vinegar helps to neutralize any stale flavors, resulting in a clean taste.
Step 12
Easily create your own flavored vinegars using leftover fruit preserves like plum or omija syrup. After straining the syrup, add vinegar to the remaining liquid and let it ferment for about a month. This simple process yields delicious plum or omija vinegar, perfect for use in cooking and beverages.
