TV Salilnam Style Stir-Fried Bean Sprouts
10-Minute Quick & Easy Stir-Fried Bean Sprouts Recipe Inspired by ‘Salilnam’
What do you do with bean sprouts that are about to go bad in your fridge? Today, I’m sharing a super quick 10-minute stir-fried bean sprouts recipe that was featured on the TV show ‘Salilnam’! It’s a delightful variation from the usual blanched or steamed bean sprout dishes, and it’s incredibly simple yet a fantastic rice accompaniment. Even if you’re new to cooking bean sprouts, or if you’re a busy student or professional, this recipe is foolproof. Serve it over freshly steamed rice for a truly satisfying meal that rivals any side dish.
Ingredients- 1 handful of bean sprouts (approx. 100-150g)
- 1 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 0.5 Tbsp Minced Garlic (about 1/2 clove)
- Sesame seeds, to taste
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the bean sprouts. Trim off any wilted or mushy parts. Rinse them thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or impurities. Then, place them in a colander to drain well. The amount of bean sprouts can be adjusted to your preference; about one handful (100-150g) is usually good for one serving.
Step 2
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the prepared bean sprouts. It’s best to cook them over medium heat rather than high heat. As bean sprouts release moisture when cooked, cover the pan initially to help them cook evenly while retaining their crispness. Cook covered for about 3-4 minutes.
Step 3
While the bean sprouts are cooking, let’s make the flavorful seasoning! In a small bowl, combine 1 Tbsp Gochujang, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp Gochugaru, and 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic. Mix well. (Tip: The ‘Salilnam’ recipe used 2 Tbsp of each Gochujang, soy sauce, and Gochugaru, and 1 Tbsp of minced garlic, adjusted for a larger quantity of bean sprouts. If you’re using less bean sprouts, it might taste too salty, so it’s recommended to start with the recipe quantities and adjust the seasoning ratio based on the amount of bean sprouts you’re using.)
Step 4
Once the bean sprouts are cooked to your liking, remove the lid and pour the prepared seasoning mixture into the pan. Reduce the heat slightly to prevent the seasoning from burning. Stir-fry quickly to evenly coat the bean sprouts with the seasoning. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the moisture from the bean sprouts and the seasoning to meld together.
Step 5
Taste the dish and adjust the seasoning if needed. If it’s not salty enough, add a little more soy sauce, or if it’s too salty, you can add a pinch of salt. Finally, sprinkle sesame seeds generously over the top for added nutty aroma, which will enhance the flavor of the stir-fried bean sprouts. Give it a final quick stir to distribute the sesame seeds.
Step 6
Voila! Your super simple TV ‘Salilnam’ style stir-fried bean sprouts are ready. This dish can be prepared in approximately 10 minutes, making it incredibly quick and easy. The spicy and slightly sweet seasoning coats the bean sprouts perfectly, making it an excellent side dish for rice or even a tasty snack. Serve it over rice and mix it in for an incredibly delicious meal! Enjoy your crisp and flavorful stir-fried bean sprouts without any unpleasant smell!
