Tuna and Onion Stir-Fry
Super Simple Tuna and Onion Stir-Fry & Rice Bowl Recipe
This is a recipe I often make when I’m short on time but still want a satisfying meal. Adding a bit of oyster sauce creates a delicious rice bowl that’s perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients- 1 can (approx. 150g) tuna
- 1/2 medium onion (approx. 100g)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 0.5 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
- 2 eggs
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s start by preparing the ingredients. Peel and wash the onion thoroughly. Then, cut it into thick strips, about 1 cm wide. Cutting them slightly thicker will prevent them from becoming mushy when stir-fried.
Step 2
Now, let’s get cooking! Heat a frying pan over medium heat. Open the can of tuna and pour the entire contents, including the oil, directly into the pan. The oil from the tuna can (usually palm oil) adds natural flavor and prevents sticking, so you don’t need to add extra cooking oil.
Step 3
Add the thickly sliced onions to the pan with the tuna and its oil.
Step 4
For enhanced flavor and to get rid of any potential fishy smell, add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic.
Step 5
It’s time to add the seasonings and stir-fry. Pour in 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 0.5 tablespoon of oyster sauce. If you don’t have oyster sauce, you can omit it, but it really adds a wonderful depth of flavor. Stir everything together continuously with a spatula, cooking until the onions become translucent and tender. Once they are cooked to your liking, turn off the heat.
Step 6
Finally, sprinkle in 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds for a nutty aroma. Give it a quick mix, and then transfer the delicious tuna and onion stir-fry to a serving dish. It’s now ready as a side dish!
Step 7
If you have a little extra time and want to make it even more special, prepare a fried egg. A sunny-side-up egg with a runny yolk is highly recommended. To make a rice bowl, place cooked rice in a bowl, top it generously with the tuna and onion stir-fry, then add the fried egg. Break the yolk and mix everything together for a hearty and flavorful tuna and onion rice bowl!
