Do you often have leftover tangsuyuk (Korean sweet and sour pork) after a meal or gathering? Instead of letting it go to waste or reheating it to a less-than-ideal texture, discover how to transform it into a fantastic ‘Seasoned Tangsuyuk’ dish with a simple, flavorful sauce. This recipe breathes new life into your leftovers, creating a delicious meal that’s perfect as a side dish or a tempting snack.
Ingredients- Pork Tangsuyuk (leftovers, appropriate amount)
- 1 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 Tbsp Ketchup
- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Maesilcheong (Korean plum extract)
- 60ml Water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the flavorful sauce. In a small bowl, combine 1 tablespoon of gochujang, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of ketchup, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 tablespoon of maesilcheong for a touch of sweetness. Add 60ml of water and stir well until all ingredients are smoothly combined. Your base sauce is now ready!
Step 2
Now, let’s prepare the pan. Putting cold, firm tangsuyuk directly into the pan can result in burning or uneven coating. Lightly grease a frying pan with a little oil, heat it over medium-low heat, and then add the cold tangsuyuk. Stir-fry gently until the exterior softens slightly. This step helps the sauce adhere better and penetrate the pork.
Step 3
It’s time to add the delicious sauce we made earlier to the tangsuyuk. Instead of pouring all the sauce at once, it’s best to add it gradually, spoon by spoon, considering the amount of tangsuyuk and your desired level of seasoning. Be cautious not to add too much at the beginning, as it can become too salty.
Step 4
Continue to stir-fry the tangsuyuk with the gradually added sauce over medium-low heat. Cook until the sauce thickens slightly, coats the tangsuyuk evenly, and gives it a glossy finish. The goal is for the crispy coating of the tangsuyuk to absorb the sauce and become delightfully chewy.
Step 5
As the sauce reduces, you’ll notice the tangsuyuk turning a mouthwatering reddish hue. Once the sauce is evenly distributed and has created a wonderfully chewy coating on the tangsuyuk, your dish is complete! This transformed tangsuyuk is perfect as a hearty side dish or a satisfying snack.
Step 6
Finally, transfer the finished seasoned tangsuyuk to a serving plate. For an extra touch of flavor and visual appeal, sprinkle some toasted sesame seeds on top. See how easily leftover tangsuyuk can become an impressive and delicious dish! Enjoy your meal.
