Main Ingredients- 8 Large Scallops (Sea Scallop recommended)
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds
Savory Soy Sauce Glaze- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 2 Tbsp Mirin (or Sake/Rice Wine)
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- A pinch of Black Pepper
- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 2 Tbsp Mirin (or Sake/Rice Wine)
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- A pinch of Black Pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Gently rinse the scallops under cold running water and pat them dry. To ensure the sauce penetrates beautifully, lightly score the surface of the scallops in a crosshatch pattern on both sides using a sharp knife. This step enhances both texture and flavor absorption.
Step 2
In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, mirin, sugar, sesame oil, and black pepper to create the flavorful glaze. Add 1/2 cup (or 6 tablespoons) of water to the mixture and pour it into a pan.
Step 3
Place the pan over low heat. Add the prepared scallops to the simmering glaze. Gently turn the scallops occasionally with a spatula to ensure they are evenly coated and cooked through for about 5-7 minutes. The sauce should reduce and become slightly sticky. Be careful not to overcook, as the scallops can become tough.
Step 4
Arrange the beautifully simmered scallops on a serving plate. Spoon the remaining glossy soy sauce glaze generously over the scallops. Finish by sprinkling toasted sesame seeds over the top for a nutty aroma and visual appeal. These soy-glazed scallops are perfect served with steamed rice or as a delightful appetizer!
