Tender Pork Belly Boiled in a Pressure Cooker
How to Boil Frozen Pork Belly for Boiled Pork – Easy Pressure Cooker Method
Enjoy delicious boiled pork belly, perfect for any meal, made easily with a pressure cooker. This recipe is straightforward and yields incredibly tender results.
Ingredients- Whole Pork Belly (Frozen or fresh, the method is the same)
- 1 Onion
- 2 Green Onions
- 1 Tbsp Doenjang (Fermented Soybean Paste)
- 1-2 Bay Leaves
- 2 Tbsp Cooking Wine (e.g., Mirin or Sake)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, an essential step before boiling the pork belly is to remove the blood. Submerge the whole pork belly in plenty of cold water and let it soak for at least 1 hour to drain the blood. If you’re short on time, you can reduce this duration. Changing the water halfway through will help remove blood more effectively. (If using frozen pork belly, make sure to fully thaw it in the refrigerator before cooking.)
Step 2
Once the blood is drained, place the pork belly into a pressure cooker. Add enough water to cover the meat. Now, it’s time to add ingredients that will eliminate any gamey odor and enhance the flavor. You can achieve a delicious result using common ingredients readily available at home.
Step 3
To remove odors and add flavor, we’ll use 2 green onions, 1 onion, 1-2 bay leaves, 2 tablespoons of cooking wine, and 1 tablespoon of doenjang. Even with these simple ingredients, you can create a wonderfully flavorful boiled pork belly without any unpleasant smell.
Step 4
If the piece of pork belly is too large, it may take longer for it to cook through. To ensure even cooking, cut the pork belly (approximately 1kg) in half before placing it in the pressure cooker. If you have more meat, consider cutting it into smaller portions.
Step 5
Close the pressure cooker lid and bring it to a boil over high heat. Once the pressure indicator starts to rise and whistle, reduce the heat to medium-low and let it cook for another 15 minutes. After that, turn off the heat and wait for the steam to completely escape from the pressure cooker before opening the lid.
Step 6
And there you have it – perfectly boiled pork belly, even using frozen pork belly! To check if it’s cooked through, insert a chopstick into the thickest part. If no red liquid or blood seeps out, it’s fully cooked and ready to be enjoyed.
Step 7
You can slice the freshly boiled pork belly right away, but letting it cool slightly before slicing will result in cleaner, neater cuts. Slicing when it’s too hot can make it difficult to cut without it falling apart.
Step 8
I chose a piece of pork belly with a good balance of lean meat and fat. This proportion makes for a delightfully savory bite with every mouthful.
Step 9
Enjoying this succulent boiled pork belly wrapped with kimchi was an absolute delight – pure flavor explosion! You must try this. Have a delicious dinner! (This content is part of a series for the ‘Good Parent Master Widget’ mission.)
