Homemade Galbi Mandu Recipe
Introducing a delicious recipe for homemade galbi mandu, perfect for storing in the fridge and enjoying whenever you crave a satisfying snack. Using pre-made galbi sauce makes it easy and quick for anyone to create flavorful galbi mandu.
Mandu Filling Ingredients- 200g minced pork
- 400g minced beef
- 20 stalks of chives (finely chopped)
- 1/2 stalk of green onion (white part mainly, finely chopped)
- 1/4 onion (finely chopped)
- 1/4 carrot (finely chopped)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1/2 Tbsp minced ginger (optional)
- Pinch of black pepper
- 9 dumpling wrappers (your preferred size)
- 1 cup pre-made galbi sauce (adjust to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the Mandu Filling Vegetables: First, wash and prepare the chives, green onions, onions, and carrots that will enhance the flavor of the mandu filling. It’s crucial to chop these vegetables very finely, almost to the point where they are not noticeable when biting into the mandu. Using a food processor will make chopping them finely much easier.
Step 2
Season the Mandu Filling: In a large bowl, combine the minced pork and beef. Add all the prepared chopped vegetables. Next, add the minced garlic, minced ginger, and black pepper. Pour in the pre-made galbi sauce. Mix and knead all the ingredients thoroughly until well combined. Using pre-made galbi sauce allows you to achieve a deep and rich galbi flavor without complex seasoning steps.
Step 3
Taste Test the Mandu Filling: It’s highly recommended to taste the filling before you start making the mandu. Take a small amount of the filling, microwave it briefly, or pan-fry it to check the seasoning. If it’s lacking flavor, add more seasoning; if it’s too salty, add a little sugar or water to balance it out. Adjusting the seasoning beforehand will prevent your mandu from being bland or overly salty later.
Step 4
Form the Mandu: Now it’s time to use the dumpling wrappers. Lightly moisten the edges of a wrapper with water, then place an appropriate amount of the prepared filling in the center. Fold and pleat the wrapper to create your desired mandu shape. Be careful not to overfill, as this can cause the mandu to burst.
Step 5
Continue Making Mandu: Use up all the remaining dumpling wrappers and filling to make more mandu. This step might take a little time, but mandu made with care will have a special taste. Patience throughout this process will bring a sense of accomplishment.
Step 6
Steam Mandu for Freezing: If you plan to freeze the mandu, place them in a steamer basket over boiling water and steam for about 5-7 minutes until slightly cooked. Partially cooking them helps maintain their texture when reheated after thawing. Once steamed, let the mandu cool slightly before placing them in the freezer for about an hour until firm.
Step 7
Freeze the Mandu: Once the mandu are frozen solid, portion them into convenient sizes and store them in zip-top bags or airtight containers in the freezer. This way, you can easily enjoy delicious galbi mandu anytime.
Step 8
Creative Use for Leftover Filling: If you have any leftover filling, you can shape it into small patties (like ‘donggeurang ttaeng’) to use as a side dish for children or as a simple snack. This ensures that no ingredients go to waste.
Step 9
Enjoy!: Serve your beautifully crafted galbi mandu steamed or pan-fried to perfection! Enjoy them with a warm soup for a delightful meal or snack.
