Tender & Delicious Boiled Octopus
The Perfect Method for Boiling Octopus at Home
When I see fresh octopus at the market, I just can’t resist! I love octopus so much that I’d wake up from a deep sleep just to eat it. Today, I used a fresh octopus from the supermarket to make delicious boiled octopus, enriching our dinner table. I’ll share with you a detailed method for boiling octopus at home that’s just as chewy and tasty as what you’d get at a restaurant. I’ll also reveal my special dipping sauce recipe!
Main Ingredients- 1 medium octopus
Cleaning & Boiling Octopus- 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 3 Tbsp coarse sea salt
- 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 3 Tbsp coarse sea salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare one medium-sized octopus. In a pot, add plenty of water along with the octopus, 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, and 3 tablespoons of coarse sea salt. Wash the octopus thoroughly by rubbing it vigorously with your hands. This process removes the slimy mucus and impurities, resulting in a cleaner and more tender boiled octopus. After washing until the water turns dark, rinse it several times under clean running water to prepare the octopus.
Step 2
Now it’s time to boil the octopus. Fill a pot with water and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat. Once the water is boiling vigorously, firmly grip the head of the octopus. Dip and lift the tentacles into the boiling water repeatedly. This will make the octopus tentacles curl up beautifully like a flower, giving them a firm texture. Once the tentacles have taken shape, submerge the entire octopus, including the head, into the water. Boil for about 10 to 15 minutes more, or until the head is cooked through. Adjust the boiling time according to the size of the octopus.
Step 3
Let’s make a delicious dipping sauce to enjoy with the octopus! Prepare two small bowls. In each bowl, add 1 tablespoon of perilla oil, half a tablespoon of fine sea salt, and 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds. Mix them well. If you like, you can also add a little minced garlic or chopped chili peppers to your preference.
Step 4
Rinse the well-boiled octopus briefly under cold running water to cool it down. To make it easy to eat, slice the octopus thinly with a knife. Slicing it thinly ensures a tender bite.
Step 5
Finally, arrange the thinly sliced octopus attractively on a serving plate. Serve it with the delicious dipping sauce you prepared, and you can easily enjoy fresh, chewy boiled octopus at home. Have a wonderful mealtime with your whole family!
