Recipe Info

  • Category : Side dish
  • Ingredient Category : Beef
  • Occasion : Baby food
  • Cooking : Braise
  • Servings : 5 servings
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 250ml Water
  • 80g Beef (lean cut, e.g., sirloin, round)
  • 2 Shiitake Mushrooms

For Thickening

  • 1 Tbsp Cornstarch
  • 1 Tbsp Water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare all the ingredients needed for the recipe. Gently press the ground beef with a paper towel to remove any excess blood. For baby food, it’s best to use beef cuts with less fat. (e.g., sirloin, round)

Step 1

Step 2

Clean the shiitake mushrooms and finely chop them into small pieces that are easy for your baby to eat. The mushrooms will add a wonderful aroma to the stew.

Step 2

Step 3

Pour 250ml of water into a pot and bring it to a boil over high heat. Pre-boiling the water that forms the base of the stew can help shorten the cooking time.

Step 3

Step 4

While the water is boiling, mix 1 Tbsp of cornstarch and 1 Tbsp of water in a small bowl until smooth to create a ‘cornstarch slurry’. This mixture will help achieve the stew’s desired thick consistency.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the water starts boiling rapidly, reduce the heat to medium. Add the finely chopped shiitake mushrooms and cook until they are slightly softened.

Step 5

Step 6

Now, add the ground beef (with blood removed) and cook it. As the beef cooks, impurities or foam may rise to the surface. Skim these off with a spoon for a cleaner taste.

Step 6

Step 7

After confirming the beef is fully cooked, pour the prepared cornstarch slurry into the pot. Gently stir once or twice with a spatula or spoon to combine everything. Be careful not to over-stir, as it can become too sticky.

Step 7

Step 8

When the mixture reaches a thick yet smooth consistency when stirred, turn off the heat. Let the finished beef and shiitake mushroom stew cool down before transferring it to baby food containers. Store in the refrigerator and serve within 2-3 days.
