Main Ingredients

  • 2 mackerel fillets, cleaned and cut into serving pieces
  • 6 thick slices of radish (mu)

Braising Sauce

  • 1 cup water (200ml)
  • 2 Tbsp Cheongju (rice wine)
  • 2 Tbsp oyster sauce
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 3 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • Chopped green onions, for garnish

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Arrange the thick slices of radish at the bottom of your pot or deep pan. The radish will absorb the flavors of the fish and sauce, becoming incredibly delicious.

Step 1

Step 2

Gently place the cleaned mackerel pieces on top of the radish. Handle the fish carefully to prevent it from breaking apart.

Step 2

Step 3

In a separate bowl, whisk together the water, Cheongju, oyster sauce, soy sauce, gochugaru, honey, olive oil, and minced garlic to create the braising sauce. Pour this sauce evenly over the mackerel and radish.

Step 3

Step 4

Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and the sauce has thickened slightly. Baste the fish with the sauce occasionally to ensure even flavoring.

Step 4

Step 5

When the mackerel is fully cooked and the sauce has reduced to a desirable consistency, add the chopped green onions on top for a fresh aroma and visual appeal.

Step 5

Step 6

Serve the delicious braised mackerel immediately. Cut into serving portions and arrange attractively on a plate. It’s best enjoyed hot with a side of steamed rice!
