Pork Belly Boiled Ingredients

  • 800g Pork Belly
  • 10 cloves Garlic
  • 4 pieces Scallion Roots
  • 1/4 Apple
  • A little Bay Leaf
  • 1/2 Tbsp Doenjang (Soybean Paste)
  • 2 tsp Instant Coffee Powder
  • A little Whole Peppercorns

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, rinse the pork belly clean for boiling. Wash the aromatic ingredients to be boiled together thoroughly. Peel and halve the onion. Leave the garlic whole and wash the scallion roots clean.

Step 1

Step 2

In a deep, large pot, place the pork belly and all the prepared ingredients (garlic, scallion roots, apple, bay leaf, doenjang, coffee powder, whole peppercorns). Add enough water to cover the ingredients. Once it starts boiling over high heat, reduce the heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer gently for about 1 hour until the meat is very tender. It’s important to boil it long enough for the meat to become tender.

Step 3

Boiled pork is incredibly simple to make, yet it magically creates a feast that looks so thoughtful and abundant! Alongside the visually appealing boiled pork, adding sliced garlic enhances the flavor. The richness of the pork and the allicin in garlic create a fantastic nutritional synergy.

Step 4

This finished pork belly boiled dish has a visual appeal that instantly makes you crave a glass of soju! Wrapped in sweet and sour pickled perilla leaves, it offers a refreshing and clean taste. Served with freshly made, crisp napa cabbage kimchi, taking a large bite is simply divine! On days like this, I always crave a glass of cool makgeolli.

Step 5

You can also add other ingredients to your liking. I added chopped Cheongyang peppers for a spicy kick. Feel free to add shredded scallions, extra garlic, or onions according to your preference.
