Main Ingredients

  • 7 pieces of prepared flounder (Dodari)
  • 2 Tbsp Korean soy sauce (Jip-ganjang)
  • 3 Tbsp regular soy sauce (Jin-ganjang)
  • 80ml water
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1.5 Tbsp red chili flakes (Gochugaru)
  • 8 perilla leaves (Kkaennip)
  • A little bit of red chili pepper (Hong-gochu)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare 7 pieces of simply cleaned flounder. Make sure the scales and innards have been removed, and rinse them thoroughly under running water. Get a pot with a wide base ready to arrange the fish.

Step 1

Step 2

Let’s make the sauce, the key to a delicious stew! In a bowl, combine 2 Tbsp Korean soy sauce, 3 Tbsp regular soy sauce, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, and 80ml water. Mix them well. Finally, add 1.5 Tbsp red chili flakes for a touch of spice. Stir until all ingredients are well combined to create the sauce.

Step 2

Step 3

Take a pot with a wide and reasonably tall base. Arrange the prepared flounder pieces on the bottom of the pot, ensuring they don’t overlap and are spread out evenly. This will help the sauce permeate the fish uniformly, making it even more delicious.

Step 3

Step 4

Pour the delicious sauce you prepared earlier evenly over the fish. Make sure the sauce coats all parts of the fish thoroughly. Tear the perilla leaves into bite-sized pieces and place them on top of the fish to enhance the flavor.

Step 4

Step 5

Now, turn the heat to medium-low and cover the pot. Let it simmer gently for about 15 minutes. It’s good to check periodically to ensure the fish doesn’t burn. After 15 minutes, when the sauce has thickened slightly and the fish looks glossy, your super simple pan-braised flounder is ready! Serve it over hot rice and enjoy!
