Sweetened Condensed Milk Grapefruit

Grapefruit can have a strong bitter taste when eaten plain, so I always find it best to add some sweetness. Today, I decided to make ‘Honey Grapefruit’ and ‘Condensed Milk Grapefruit’ using fresh grapefruits from home. The unique sweet and slightly bitter flavor profile is truly captivating. This recipe transforms simple grapefruit into a delightful dessert that balances the fruit’s natural tang with creamy sweetness.

  • 1 Grapefruit
  • Honey, to taste
  • Sweetened condensed milk, to taste

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

To ensure the grapefruit is clean and free from any wax or residue, soak it in water with a little baking soda for about 5 to 10 minutes. Afterwards, gently scrub the grapefruit peel with a soft sponge or clean cloth to wash it thoroughly. This step helps to prepare the grapefruit for consumption.

Step 1

Step 2

Carefully cut the washed grapefruit in half. It’s best to place the grapefruit on a stable surface before cutting to ensure a clean slice.

Step 2

Step 3

With the cut side facing up, use a spoon to gently scoop out the grapefruit segments from the peel. Be careful not to scrape too deep and remove the white pith along with the fruit, as we only want to extract the juicy flesh.

Step 3

Step 4

For the remaining grapefruit peel halves, use a knife to score the inside of the peel. This will make it easier to peel away the white pith. Try to remove as much of the white pith as possible, as this is what contributes to the bitterness.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the grapefruit segments have been carefully extracted, place them back into their original grapefruit peel shells. Generously drizzle sweetened condensed milk over the grapefruit segments, ensuring it coats them evenly. The creamy sweetness of the condensed milk will beautifully complement the grapefruit’s tartness.

Step 5

Step 6

Arrange the peeled grapefruit segments attractively within the peel halves, presenting them as if they were still whole. Then, generously drizzle honey over the top. The subtle sweetness of the honey will add another layer of flavor, enhancing the overall dessert experience.

Step 6

Step 7

And there you have it! Your delicious Sweetened Condensed Milk Grapefruit, also known as Honey Grapefruit, is ready to be enjoyed. This delightful dessert perfectly balances sweetness and a hint of tartness, making it a refreshing treat.
