Main Ingredients- 159g Gochubugak (dried and fried chili snacks)
- 150g Mixed nuts (e.g., walnuts, almonds, cashews, your choice)
Seasoning Sauce- 5 Tbsp Soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp Fish sauce (or anchovy extract)
- 2 Tbsp Corn syrup (or rice syrup)
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 5 Tbsp Soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp Fish sauce (or anchovy extract)
- 2 Tbsp Corn syrup (or rice syrup)
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare your Gochubugak for frying. If you are using commercially fried Gochubugak, carefully separate any crumbs or broken pieces from the main snacks. If you are frying them yourself, you can skip this step.
Step 2
Cut the Gochubugak into bite-sized pieces. Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the Gochubugak and fry until golden brown and crisp, being careful not to burn them. Once fried, place the Gochubugak on paper towels to drain excess oil, which will help maintain their crispiness.
Step 3
Prepare the nuts that will accompany the Gochubugak. You can use any nuts you have on hand; a mix of walnuts, almonds, and cashews works wonderfully. Chop or break the nuts into smaller pieces so they are easy to eat and mix well with the snacks.
Step 4
Now, let’s make the delicious sauce! In a clean pan, combine 5 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp fish sauce, 2 Tbsp corn syrup, and 1 Tbsp sugar. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat. As soon as it starts bubbling, turn off the heat. Add the fried Gochubugak first and gently toss them to coat evenly with the sauce. Be careful not to cook over high heat for too long, as the sauce can burn.
Step 5
Finally, add the prepared nuts to the pan and gently mix them with the Gochubugak and sauce until well combined. Sprinkle with sesame seeds for an extra touch of aroma and flavor. Your delicious Gochubugak Candied Snack is now ready! It’s wonderful served warm, but it also retains its delightful crunch even after cooling.
