Sweet & Savory Braised Tofu for Baby
Easy Baby Side Dish Recipe: Delicious Braised Tofu
Introducing a soft braised tofu dish, perfect as a first side dish for your baby. Its delightful sweet and savory flavor combination makes it a magical dish that your baby will devour with their rice. It’s also simple to make, making it suitable from the baby food stage.
Main Ingredients- Tofu 100g (firm or medium-firm)
- Onion 22g
- Carrot 17g
- Scallion (green onion) a small amount
- Minced garlic 1/2 Tbsp
- Broth 200ml (anchovy-kelp broth recommended)
- Baby soy sauce 2 Tbsp
- Agave syrup 1.5 Tbsp
- Oyster sauce 1/2 Tbsp
- Sesame oil 1/2 Tbsp
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash and prepare all your vegetables. Finely julienne the onion and carrot. Finely chop the scallions. Cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes (about 2cm thick) for your baby. Be careful not to cut them too small, as they might break apart during cooking.
Step 2
In a pot, combine the anchovy broth (200ml) and minced garlic (1/2 Tbsp). Bring to a boil over high heat. Wait until the broth is rapidly bubbling.
Step 3
Once the broth is boiling, add the julienned onion and carrot first, followed by the baby soy sauce (2 Tbsp). Let it simmer for about 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender.
Step 4
Next, add the agave syrup (1.5 Tbsp) for sweetness and the oyster sauce (1/2 Tbsp) for umami. Stir gently to combine all the seasonings.
Step 5
Carefully place the seasoned tofu into the pot. Reduce the heat to medium and let it simmer gently for about 5-7 minutes, or until the sauce has slightly reduced. Gently stir occasionally to prevent the tofu from breaking. As the sauce thickens, the vegetables and tofu will absorb the flavors. Once the sauce is almost reduced to your liking, add the chopped scallions and cook for another short simmer.
Step 6
Finally, drizzle in the sesame oil (1/2 Tbsp) for added aroma. After adding the sesame oil, simmer for only another 30 seconds to 1 minute. Taste the sauce and if it’s not salty enough, you can add a tiny bit more baby soy sauce. Once the flavor is just right, turn off the heat and serve your delicious braised tofu.
