Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Hello everyone! Today, we’re making the ever-popular ‘Ang-Butter’ using chewy Laugen bread. You can create a fantastic Ang-butter without any special baking equipment or complicated steps. Let me first introduce the ingredients you’ll need to make 4 Ang-butter Laugen sandwiches!
Step 2
The star of our Ang-butter today is the Laugen bread. You can easily find this at most bakeries, or use a pretzel if Laugen is unavailable. (For reference, I purchased 2 Laugen breads for 3,200 KRW at Tous Les Jours.) You’ll need a total of 4 Laugen breads for this recipe.
Step 3
Arrange the 4 Laugen breads neatly on a tray or a large plate. This is simply the preparation step before we start assembling the Ang-butter.
Step 4
Now, we’ll make a slit in the Laugen to fill it. Using a knife, cut about two-thirds of the way into the Laugen, creating a pocket. Be careful not to cut all the way through, so one side remains connected. This slit makes it much easier to stuff the red bean paste and butter inside.
Step 5
Generously fill the inside of the slit Laugen with the prepared red bean paste. You can adjust the amount of red bean paste according to your personal preference. If you love sweetness, add more; if you prefer to taste more of the bread, use a moderate amount.
Step 6
Using the back of a spoon or a spatula, spread the red bean paste evenly on one side of the Laugen’s opening. Gently press down as you spread to ensure it’s level and neat. Spreading the red bean paste thoroughly will make the sandwich assembly cleaner.
Step 7
Next, it’s time to prepare the butter, the heart of Ang-butter! Unsalted butter is typically used for Ang-butter, as it allows the pure, rich flavor of the butter to shine through. Prepare your unsalted butter in a rectangular shape.
Step 8
We’ll cut the unsalted butter into pieces that are easy to fit into the Ang-butter. Cut it into approximately 12 rectangular slices. Using unsalted butter instead of salted butter in Ang-butter helps create a more harmonious balance between the sweetness of the red bean paste and the richness of the butter. Unsalted butter, as the name suggests, contains no added salt.
Step 9
Take the 12 butter slices and place 3 slices neatly on top of the red bean paste in each Laugen. As the butter melts, it will seep into the bread and red bean paste, adding a fantastic depth of flavor.
Step 10
Finally, place the top half of the Laugen back on to complete your delicious Ang-butter Laugen! Isn’t that incredibly simple? You’ve created a wonderful homemade Ang-butter in no time at all.
Step 11
Transfer your finished Ang-butter Laugen to a plate for serving. Your visually appealing Ang-butter Laugen is ready to be enjoyed!
Step 12
Behold, the adorable Ang-butter Laugen! Delicious food has a magic way of making us forget about calories, doesn’t it? For the moments you’re indulging, let’s pretend it’s ‘zero calorie’! (Of course, having the right mindset is key to enjoying it!)
Step 13
With sweet red bean paste and rich unsalted butter generously stuffed inside, this Ang-butter Laugen is bound to be delicious! Now, I’m going to take a bite. I’m already so excited to taste it.
Step 14
Look at how thick the butter is! It’s incredibly generous, isn’t it? The moment you take a bite of the Ang-butter Laugen, the sweetness of the red bean paste and the smooth, rich flavor of the butter combine perfectly in your mouth, creating an absolutely divine taste! It pairs exceptionally well with a warm, strong cup of Americano – it’s pure bliss! You absolutely must try making this at home!
