  • Green Onion 1 stalk
  • Fish Cakes 100g
  • Shredded Mozzarella Cheese 1 paper cup
  • Water 2 paper cups

Seasoning Ingredients

  • Sugar 2 Tbsp
  • Gochugaru (Korean Chili Flakes) 2 Tbsp
  • Minced Garlic 1 Tbsp
  • Soy Sauce 2 Tbsp
  • Gochujang (Korean Chili Paste) 2 Tbsp

Cooking Instructions

First, prepare the green onion which will add flavor to the tteokbokki. Slice the green onion diagonally into approximately 1cm pieces. Larger pieces add a nice texture when bitten into.

Let’s make the delicious tteokbokki sauce! In a bowl, combine 2 Tbsp sugar, 2 Tbsp gochugaru, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 2 Tbsp soy sauce, and 2 Tbsp gochujang. Mix well until there are no lumps. Making the sauce in advance allows the flavors to meld beautifully with the ingredients.

Now it’s time to cook the tteokbokki. Pour 2 paper cups (400ml) of water into a pot and bring it to a boil over high heat. Once the water is boiling vigorously, add the prepared sauce and reduce the heat to medium, then let it simmer. Be careful to prevent the sauce from burning.

Once the sauce is well dissolved, add the sweet rice cakes and fish cakes. To maintain the chewy texture of the rice cakes, avoid cooking them for too long. Let them simmer in the sauce with the fish cakes for a bit, then add the prepared green onions and mix lightly.

Finally, generously top the tteokbokki with shredded mozzarella cheese to make it even richer and more delicious. Cover with a lid and cook over low heat until the cheese is completely melted.
