Sweet Homemade Grape Wine
How to Easily Make Grape Wine at Home
Let’s make a lightly sweet homemade grape wine using 3kg of grapes, rich in anthocyanins. It’s wonderful to enjoy a glass when you have indigestion, feel tired, or can’t sleep. This recipe offers a delightful way to enjoy the health benefits and delicious taste of homemade wine.
Main Ingredients- 3kg ripe grapes
- 1.2kg granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
For Washing Grapes- 1 Tbsp baking soda
- Water
- 1 Tbsp baking soda
- Water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, it’s crucial to wash the grapes thoroughly. Fill a bowl with plenty of water, dissolve 1 tablespoon of baking soda in it, and then soak the grape bunches for about 10 minutes. After soaking, rinse them under running water multiple times until completely clean. Once washed, separate the grapes from the stems and place them in a colander to drain. Allow them to air dry completely. Residual moisture can affect the fermentation process, so thorough drying is essential.
Step 2
Place the dried grape berries into a large, clean bowl or basin. Put on a pair of plastic gloves and gently crush each grape berry. Avoid mashing them too vigorously; the goal is to break the skin and release the seeds slightly, which helps in extracting more flavor and aroma.
Step 3
The standard ratio for grape wine is typically 10:1 (grape to sugar), but for a subtly sweet wine, we’ll use 1.2kg of sugar. Add the sugar to the crushed grapes in the bowl. Mix well, ensuring the sugar is evenly distributed. As the sugar dissolves, it will draw out moisture from the grapes, creating a natural syrup.
Step 4
Transfer the grape and sugar mixture into a thoroughly sterilized glass jar. Cover the opening of the jar with plastic wrap several times and then secure it with the lid. Sealing the top with plastic wrap first helps to release gases produced during fermentation while preventing air from entering.
Step 5
Seal the jar with its lid and store it in a cool, dark place for 3 months. During this time, you’ll notice the grape pulp rising to the top and the clear wine settling at the bottom. After 3 months, carefully strain the clear wine into another container, leaving the sediment behind. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve to ensure a clear liquid. Your delicious homemade grape wine is now ready to be enjoyed!
