Essential Ingredients- 2 slices of thick-cut bread
- 2 fresh eggs
- 1/3 paper cup of milk (approx. 60ml)
- 1 pinch of salt
- 2 tablespoons condensed milk (approx. 30ml)
- 1 piece of butter (approx. 10g)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, using a bread knife, cut the 2 slices of bread into your desired serving size. You can simply halve them or cut them diagonally into triangles for a more appealing presentation. This shape helps the egg mixture soak in better and makes them easier to cook.
Step 2
In a shallow bowl, crack the 2 fresh eggs. Add about 1/3 paper cup of milk, a pinch of salt for balanced flavor, and 2 tablespoons of condensed milk for sweetness. Feel free to adjust the amount of condensed milk to your preference.
Step 3
Whisk the eggs, milk, and condensed milk together with a fork until well combined and smooth. Once you have a lovely custard mixture, dip the bread slices into it. Ensure each slice is fully submerged, turning them over for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, allowing the bread to soak up the mixture thoroughly. This soaking step is key to achieving a wonderfully soft texture when cooked.
Step 4
Now, it’s time to heat the pan. Melt 1 piece of butter in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Keep the heat low to prevent the butter from burning, and swirl it around to coat the pan evenly.
Step 5
Once the butter is melted and fragrant, place the 4 soaked bread slices into the pan. It’s important to cook over medium-low heat to ensure the inside cooks through while the outside turns golden brown without burning. High heat will only brown the exterior quickly.
Step 6
When one side of the French toast is a beautiful golden brown, carefully flip it over. Cook the other side over medium-low heat until it’s also golden brown and perfectly toasted. Once both sides are evenly cooked, your delicious condensed milk French toast is ready to enjoy!
