This recipe features a sweet and aromatic apple compote made with autumn apples. Inspired by the TV show ‘Pyeonstorang’, instead of nectarines, we’re using flavorful apples and sweet Moscato wine to create a special apple compote. While delicious on its own, this compote transforms into a delightful cocktail with a subtle sweetness when you add a splash of Absolut Vodka and tonic water. You can adjust the amount of vodka to your preference, creating a smooth and fragrant fruit cocktail that even those who don’t enjoy alcohol can savor. The unique rich aroma and sweetness of Moscato wine reduce the need for added sugar while infusing the compote with deep flavor. Let’s explore this captivating recipe!
Ingredients- 6 Apples (large and sweet varieties recommended)
- 1 bottle Moscato wine (750ml)
- 2 tbsp Absolut Vodka (or adjust to taste)
- 900ml Tonic water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the star ingredient for the apple compote: one bottle of Moscato wine. I often don’t finish sweet wines like Moscato, so using it in this special recipe feels particularly resourceful. Its sweet and fragrant notes will add depth to the apple compote.
Step 2
Let’s make the most of ‘ugly’ apples for a cost-effective yet delicious result. These ‘ugly’ apples, purchased affordably at E-mart, might not be visually perfect but are incredibly sweet and tasty. Carefully inspect them for any bruised or rotten spots. Once confirmed good, wash them thoroughly under running water and pat them completely dry.
Step 3
Since we’ll be using the apple peels, ensure they are meticulously cleaned. For the cocktail, you’d want smaller pieces, but to prevent the apples from becoming too mushy during the compote process, cut them into slightly larger-than-bite-sized pieces for now. You can dice them smaller later when making the cocktail to maintain a pleasant texture.
Step 4
Place the cut apples into a saucepan for making the compote. Arrange them evenly at the bottom of the pot.
Step 5
Now, pour the entire bottle of prepared Moscato wine into the saucepan. Add only a small amount of sugar to supplement the apples’ natural sweetness. Begin simmering gently over medium-low heat from the start. It’s crucial to let the wine’s alcohol gradually evaporate while it subtly infuses the apples.
Step 6
It’s best to leave the lid off while the compote is simmering. This allows the alcohol from the wine to evaporate effectively, and the apples’ natural sweetness and fragrant flavors will infuse into the liquid, creating a richly flavored apple compote. Once done, you can let it cool and store it in the refrigerator to enjoy immediately.
Step 7
Transfer the finished apple compote into a clean glass jar, ensuring you include both the apple pieces and the delicious syrupy liquid. Storing it this way allows you to savor the apple’s flavor for an extended period.
Step 8
To complete the cocktail, add a small amount of Absolut Vodka to the apple compote in the jar, then top it up with tonic water for a refreshing touch. Pour it into a champagne flute, and garnish with an apple slice for a beautiful presentation – a perfect home cafe beverage! The delightful sweetness, complemented by the subtle hint of vodka, is truly appealing. If you desire a stronger vodka aroma, feel free to increase the amount of vodka according to your preference. This is a delicious cocktail that even those sensitive to alcohol can enjoy without hesitation.
