Ingredients

  • 3 Red grapefruits
  • 700g Apples
  • 1.5kg Granulated sugar

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Begin by thoroughly washing the grapefruits. Sprinkle them generously with baking soda and rub to remove any impurities. Rinse them well under running water, then pat them completely dry with paper towels. Carefully peel the thick outer skin of the grapefruits using a sharp knife.

Step 1

Step 2

Next, meticulously remove the white pith from the grapefruits, separating the juicy segments. If this process seems too tedious or difficult, you can opt for a simpler method: after peeling the thick skin in step 1, finely chop the entire grapefruit. Keeping the segments intact will offer a more enjoyable texture.

Step 2

Step 3

Now, prepare the apples. Peel the apples and then finely chop them according to your preference. I chose to chop them slightly coarser with a knife to enjoy a more distinct bite later. If you prefer a smoother consistency, feel free to use a food processor or blender. To prevent browning when using a blender, consider adding about 1 cup of sugar to the apples before blending; this helps maintain their color.

Step 3

Step 4

Combine the prepared grapefruit segments and chopped apples in a large bowl. Add the granulated sugar, using a 1:1 ratio of fruit to sugar. Mix everything together thoroughly. If you have a sweeter tooth, feel free to increase the amount of sugar slightly. Ensure the sugar is evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

Step 4

Step 5

Let the mixture sit at room temperature until the sugar has completely dissolved and appears clear. Once dissolved, transfer the marmalade into clean, sterilized jars. Seal the jars and refrigerate for at least 3 days before serving. The flavors will meld and deepen beautifully during this resting period, making it even more delicious!
