Main Ingredients- 1/4 Japanese sweet pumpkin (kabocha squash)
- 1 Tbsp cooking oil
- 10g butter
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the sweet pumpkin thoroughly under running water. Then, cut it in half and use a spoon to meticulously scoop out all the seeds and stringy bits from the inside. Ensuring a clean cavity will lead to a better texture.
Step 2
Cut the seeded sweet pumpkin into bite-sized pieces that are easy to handle and eat. Slicing them into appropriate portions will ensure they cook evenly and are convenient to serve. Avoid cutting them too small, as they might break apart during cooking.
Step 3
Place the cut sweet pumpkin pieces in a steamer basket and steam them for about 5 minutes until they are slightly tender. This pre-steaming step helps to soften the pumpkin, allowing it to absorb the butter beautifully and become wonderfully moist inside when roasted. Be careful not to over-steam, as it can become mushy.
Step 4
Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil and 10g of butter. Once the butter has melted, add the steamed sweet pumpkin pieces. Roast them, flipping occasionally, until they are golden brown and slightly caramelized on all sides. The butter will infuse the pumpkin with a delicious, nutty aroma and flavor. Keep the heat at a medium-low to prevent burning.
