Main Ingredients- 300g Tteokbokki Rice Cakes (wheat or rice cakes)
- 2 pieces Square Fish Cakes (adjustable to preference)
- 1 stalk Green Onion (chopped)
Seasoning Ingredients- 1 can Sikhye (the secret ingredient for sweetness and umami!)
- 2 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste, adjust spiciness)
- 1/2 Tbsp Soy Sauce (for deep flavor)
- 1 can Sikhye (the secret ingredient for sweetness and umami!)
- 2 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste, adjust spiciness)
- 1/2 Tbsp Soy Sauce (for deep flavor)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s make the base for the tteokbokki sauce. In a pot, add 2 tablespoons of gochujang and 1/2 tablespoon of soy sauce. For the sikhye, strain it through a sieve to remove the rice grains, and then carefully pour in only the liquid. (The sauce can become cloudy if the rice grains are included!)
Step 2
Pour the sikhye liquid (with rice grains removed) into the pot with the prepared seasonings and mix well. Start boiling over high heat. Once the sauce boils, add the soaked tteokbokki rice cakes. Cut the square fish cakes into bite-sized pieces with scissors and add them as well. It’s important to stir well at this stage to prevent the rice cakes from sticking together.
Step 3
Continue to simmer until the rice cakes and fish cakes are tender and the sauce has thickened. Once the flavors have sufficiently melded, finally add the chopped green onions and simmer for a little longer. The rich aroma of the green onions will make your Sikhye Tteokbokki complete! Enjoy it while it’s warm.
