Main Ingredients

  • Dinner rolls or morning buns: 7-8 pieces
  • Salad cabbage: 1 bag (approx. 150g)
  • Sliced ham or whole ham: 7-8 slices
  • Sliced cheese: 7-8 slices
  • Canned corn: 1/3 can (approx. 50g)
  • Onion: 1/4 (thinly sliced)
  • Carrot: 1/4 (thinly julienned)
  • Imitation crab sticks (krab): 5 sticks
  • Eggs: 4
  • Fig jam (or your favorite jam): adequate amount

Sandwich Filling Seasoning & Dressing

  • Mayonnaise: 1 Tbsp (or adjust to taste)
  • Honey mustard sauce: 4 Tbsp
  • Ketchup: 1 Tbsp
  • Black pepper: a pinch
  • Salt: 2 pinches

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare Sandwich Fillings: If you’re using whole ham, you can use a round cookie cutter that matches the size of your buns to cut out shapes for a more visually appealing sandwich. If you don’t have a cookie cutter, it’s perfectly fine to use the ham as is.

Step 1

Step 2

Lightly pan-fry the ham over medium heat. Whisk the eggs in a bowl and cook them into thin omelets. Once cooled, cut or stamp the omelets to match the size of your cheese and ham slices. Preparing the cheese, ham, and omelet to the same size will make assembling the sandwich neater.

Step 2

Step 3

Wash the cabbage thoroughly under running water, drain it well, and then thinly shred it. Thinly slice the onion and soak it in cold water for about 5 minutes to remove its pungent taste. Afterward, drain the onion thoroughly in a colander. This step helps maintain the crispiness of the sandwich filling.

Step 3

Step 4

Remove the packaging from the imitation crab sticks and shred them with your hands. Peel the carrot and julienne it finely. Drain the canned corn in a colander and rinse it with hot water 2-3 times. This helps remove the characteristic canned taste and smell, making the corn taste cleaner.

Step 4

Step 5

Make the Delicious Sandwich Sauce: As a base, mixing 3 Tbsp mayonnaise, 2 Tbsp honey mustard, 1 Tbsp ketchup, 1/3 Tbsp sugar, a pinch of black pepper, and 2 pinches of salt works well. However, if your children are not fond of mayonnaise, adjust the quantities by reducing the mayonnaise (to 1 Tbsp) and increasing the honey mustard (to 4 Tbsp), keeping the ketchup at 1 Tbsp, along with sugar, pepper, and salt to suit your children’s preferences.

Step 5

Step 6

Mix the prepared sauce with all the filling ingredients thoroughly. It might seem like there isn’t enough sauce initially, but it will be sufficient once mixed with the ingredients and provides enough flavor. Be mindful not to add too much sauce, as it can make the sandwich feel greasy.

Step 6

Step 7

Slice the morning buns (or dinner rolls) in half horizontally. Spread a thin layer of fig jam on the inside of one of the bun halves. The jam acts as a barrier, preventing the bun from absorbing moisture from the salad and other fillings, which helps keep the bun from becoming soggy. If you don’t have fig jam, you can use strawberry jam, apple jam, or any other jam you have on hand.

Step 7

Step 8

Assemble the sandwich: Layer the ingredients onto the bottom half of the bun in this order: jam-spread side -> shredded cabbage -> sliced cheese -> pan-fried ham -> egg omelet -> more shredded cabbage -> then top with the other half of the bun. To prevent the sandwich from falling apart, insert a skewer through the middle to secure it.
